Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ennis Oliver Jr.. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ennis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
That people remember me for living by my morals, not changing myself for money or fame. I’ve always told stories of redemption and finding ones self. Still til this day my goal remains building others up and giving back to the community that made me who I am today.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’’m a recording artist. I’ve been recording music for 11 years. I started writing music and battle rapping with friends in my younger years, until I had alot of people tell me I should take it serious and actually record songs. So I started off doing covers and remixing fan favorites, then after a year I transitioned to making original songs and the rest is history. I do write songs for other artist and I create custom songs for clients. I discovered alot of music lovers would love to commemorate custom songs to loved ones, but didn’t have personal relationships with artist to make that happen, so I created a way to deliver that service to individuals looking to brighten their anniversary/wedding anniversaries. I feel like what sets me apart is I love to connect with the people I represent. I don’t view myself as above anyone, I always want to have a direct connection to who supports me. Experiencing different environments and hearing stories from my listeners sparks inspiration. I come from the inner city where there was not alot of opportunity to make it out. I know what hopelessness feels like and what prayer can do for one’s soul. I grew up on 8419 Baseline Road in Little Rock, Arkansas. I named my music company (EightyFour19music) after the street I lived on to serve as a constant reminder that i’am a product of my hometown and everything I do and create represents my upbringing from my hometown and the prospect of a brighter future to those that come after me.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that all family is supportive. I remember taking ideas to my family and being made fun of for dreaming to big. I had to realize my journey and vision will not be understood or accepted by others and that’s okay. I had to learn I can’t share everything with someone who has never attempted to dream big.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Just be yourself. Social media can be a confusing place. Every day there is a new trend, a new standard and it’s easy to lose yourself. Just take a step back and ask yourself what do you stand for? Once you figure that out just stick to your guns, don’t worry about fluctuations of your number of followers because over time, you will carve out a core following by creating content that represents your beliefs.
