We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Enjelle Mitchell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Enjelle below.
Enjelle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Taking the risk to put myself out there was one of the scariest but most transformative decisions of my life. Growing up, I was often the only Black girl in predominantly white spaces, which left me feeling so out of place and intimidated that I sometimes couldn’t even bring myself to speak. It got to the point where I’d wear a hat and jacket, even in 90-degree weather, just to blend into the background and avoid being noticed. Being in those environments made me feel small and insecure, and it took a long time before I found the courage to start speaking up.
From elementary school through my sophomore year of high school, I stayed silent, observing and internalizing so much. But when I reached my junior year, something inside me shifted. I felt an undeniable urge to speak out against the injustices facing my community. It felt like my inner child, the little girl who had hidden away, needed me to take this stand so she could heal. So I threw myself into the worlds of politics and journalism. I’ll never forget the first article I wrote about Donald Trump, the Central Park Five, and the deep flaws in our justice system. From that moment on, I found my voice and wasn’t afraid to use it.
When the pandemic hit, I decided to launch a platform on TikTok where I started covering cases highlighting the inequalities within our justice system and speaking out for marginalized communities, whether it was the LGBTQIA+ community, the Black community, the Hispanic community, or others. As I continued to share, I gained traction and found myself collaborating with some of my favorite brands. One of the most incredible opportunities came when I was invited to work with Vice President Harris’s campaign as a content creator for Georgia.
Looking back, I’m so grateful I took that leap of faith. Sometimes taking a risk opens doors you never even knew existed.

Enjelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’d love to introduce myself to the readers. My name is Énjelle Mitchell, and I’m a 21-year-old junior at Morris Brown College, majoring in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. My journey into journalism and advocacy began in high school when I realized the power of storytelling in driving change. Growing up in predominantly white spaces, I often felt unseen and unheard, but by my junior year, I found my voice and started speaking up for my community.
My first major step into journalism came when I wrote an article about Donald Trump, the Central Park Five, and the injustices within the legal system. From there, I immersed myself in reporting and advocacy, using my platform to highlight issues affecting marginalized communities. During the pandemic, I launched a TikTok platform covering cases of injustice, which led to brand collaborations and the opportunity to work as a content creator for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign in Georgia.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge journalism with activism, making complex issues accessible and engaging. I focus on shedding light on overlooked stories and amplifying voices that need to be heard. I’m most proud of the impact my work has had in empowering young people to get involved in social justice. My goal is to educate, inspire, and mobilize people to take action. Whether through journalism, digital content, or advocacy, I remain committed to standing up, speaking out, and creating meaningful change.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most defining moments of my journey was learning to navigate predominantly white spaces where I often felt invisible. Growing up, I was usually the only Black girl in the room, which made me hesitant to speak up. By my sophomore year of high school, I had become so withdrawn that I would wear a jacket and hat, even in extreme heat, just to blend into the background.
That changed during my junior year when I realized that staying silent was not an option. I wrote my first major article about Donald Trump, the Central Park Five, and the flaws in the justice system. Publishing that piece was terrifying, but it was also liberating. It pushed me to embrace journalism as a tool for activism, and I have not looked back since.
During the pandemic, I took another leap by launching a TikTok platform covering social justice issues. At first, I faced backlash, including harassment and negative comments, but I refused to let that silence me. Instead, I doubled down, creating content that reached thousands and eventually led to opportunities with major brands and Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.
Resilience, to me, is about showing up even when it is uncomfortable. It is about using your voice when the world tries to silence you. Every challenge I have faced has only reinforced my purpose, amplifying marginalized voices and creating meaningful change.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. My mission is to use storytelling as a tool for empowerment, advocacy, and change. Whether through journalism, digital content, or activism, my goal is to amplify marginalized voices, highlight social injustices, and make complex issues more accessible to younger audiences.
Growing up in spaces where I often felt unseen, I understand the importance of representation and the power of using your voice. That is why my work centers around shedding light on stories that often go ignored, encouraging civic engagement, and inspiring people, especially young Black and marginalized individuals, to take up space and speak out.
Through my journalism and content creation, I strive to educate and mobilize people, making them feel both informed and empowered to take action. Whether I am covering political issues, advocating for social justice, or working with brands that align with my values, my creative journey is always rooted in impact.
At the core of everything I do is a commitment to truth, equity, and community. I want my work to not only inform but also inspire people to challenge the status quo and push for meaningful change.
