We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eni Neadle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eni below.
Eni, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
A Sweet Chance’s mission is to give teens in the foster care system a sweet 16s birthday event that they will remember forever. A Sweet Chance, together with our community, comes together and gather gowns, heels, accessories and let’s not forget the tiaras and give these teens a day just for them. They are showered with birthday gifts, hair and make-up team glam them up and our professional photographers give them a private photoshoot. After it all, they leave feelings loved and honored as they deserve.
Eni, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
A Sweet Chance came about after I, a Cuban adoptive mom, instilling her culture in her children, spoke about celebrating my teen daughter’s Quinces. After months of planning, shopping, and planning the perfect outfits wanted to give my daughters their traditional Quinceñeara dream and the results were magical! Jazmin, is adopted from foster care had never heard of a Quinces until she that discussion.
Jazmin, told me that if she had never been adopted she would have never had this experience. She said that this experience had to be shared with other girls who were not as fortunate. And we did… Jazmin and her sister, Erika, who are active participant in their school’s photography club quickly mobilized a student crew, Then, through social media, gathered an incredible team of photographers, hair dressers, make-up artists, all who offered their services pro bono and offered teens in foster care a day of pampering, and glam, followed by a photo shoot.
Throughout this journey, Jazmin and I teamed up with long-time friend, Favila Budyszewick and new-found friend, Janeris Marte, who are all foster & adoptive moms. Together, with these wonderful powerhouses, we worked hard to make A Sweet Chance the local organization it is today.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I have known Favila Budyszewick (Favi) for years. We met through a mutual friend and found out that we were both on a crazy similar path. She was on the process of adopting 3 children from foster care and i was in that same exact process adopting Jazmin and Daisy.
Once Favi and I got the ball rolling and received some momentum through social media, i met Janeris Marte (Janeris). She reached out b/c she read about what we were doing and felt in her heart she wanted to be a part of this adventure. Janeris had also adopted her children from foster care. When i learned her story, I knew We had to meet. We planned to meet for dinner and clicked right away. The rest is history.
From then on, Favi, Janeris, and I, with the help of all our children, have been working together relentlessly to give these teens their special day.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Im not especially great with social media. Back then when jazmin and i realized this dream had to be shared, i did turn to Facebook, which was my private account with only a few friends and family. I think i still only have about 100 or less friends on there. Lol
But with my friends sharing on their pages, so on and so on, we got the attention of Enrique Santos, a radio host for Tu 94.9 (I Heart Radio) and he then reached out to Janeris and told her he was moved by our mission and wanted to help.
I believe it was that moment, when our community saw us. The incredible support was humbling. My heart wanted to help as many teens as possible and now its a reality.
