We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Empress Axa The Poet. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Empress Axa below.
Empress Axa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Hope is often defined as the expectation that what we desire will be achieved or that events will unfold favorably. For me, hope is a profound sense of fulfillment, a deep conviction that transcends immediate satisfaction. Legend has it that on the night of my birth, my mother held me close and wept, foreseeing the trials and tribulations of life and the strength required to face them. In that moment, my soul was dedicated to the Lord. My mother, through her tears, baptized me and committed me to The Most High. I believe my work is a reflection of His work, and I hope that my presence will be a source of comfort and inspiration, drawing people—men, women, and children—towards the gospel.
When my time on this earth comes to an end, I hope that even those who knew me only slightly will recognize my legacy of love through my poetry.
Empress Axa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
About Myself
My name is Empress—a name that, while a playful pun, also reflects a deeper birthright. The title carries with it a sense of dominion and love. The Swahili word “Axa” translates to “life,” so my stage name literally means “one who has dominion over life.” It’s both exciting and enchanting to wield the power of words, to uplift and inspire others through my speech, and to make an impact without physical touch.
What types of services do I provide?
I provide a unique blend of motivational speaking and ancient parables. From a young age, I’ve had an innate ability to speak life and positivity into anyone who hears me. This gift, which has brought me local recognition and a modest income, has always been a central part of my life. Those close to me often remark on my unwavering optimism and belief in endless possibilities and miracles.
How I got into the business?
Initially, my motivation wasn’t to monetize this talent; I simply loved to speak and would have performed for free at every opportunity within a 50-mile radius. To be honest, there were so many dresses and pumps in my closet, but I had nowhere to where them. One night, holding firm to the sentiment that men are not hobbies, I decided to get a life. Became addicted to the poetry community scenes. However, I quickly realized that covering the costs of new outfits, manicures, pedicures, and travel expenses was going to be a challenge. As a result, I began booking featured performances to sustain my involvement in various open mic venues across the metroplex. Today, I continue to blend my passion for speaking with a practical approach to ensure that I can keep delivering inspirational messages to diverse audiences.
What kind of service do I provide?
One of the most common fears people face is public speaking. Many Americans would prefer to jump out of a perfectly good airplane rather than speak in front of a room full of strangers. I address this fear head-on by demonstrating the profound impact that one voice can have.
What kind of problems do I solve for audience members?
Through my performances, I show audiences how powerful and transformative their own voices can be. By sharing motivational insights and ancient parables, I help individuals overcome their anxiety about public speaking and empower them to express themselves with confidence. My goal is to turn a daunting task into an opportunity for personal growth and empowerment, proving that speaking with passion and authenticity can make a significant difference.
I am living proof of a powerful truth: the spirit of an individual can be truly remarkable—if you let it shine. I am a megaphone for to the seemingly voiceless.
Among the many things I take pride in, commissioned poetry stands out as a true joy. There’s nothing quite like seeing the delight on a client’s face when they receive their framed, custom poem. While writing for professional purposes is fulfilling, crafting personalized art is a gift that keeps on giving. With thoughtful planning, including theme and key details, each piece becomes a cherished keepsake in each household.
Remember, when it comes to making an impression, “Empress came to Impress.”
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist is how spoken word is fitting for most any occasion. The audience is always so grateful for the stories told. Storytelling is reminiscent of when we all used to gather around, allowing wisdom to be passed down. All throughout history, there has to have been someone to relay the legends, the myths and the moral of the stories: she is me.
Recently, one young lady said, “I would like a copy of that work. It made me cry.”
“My intent was not to cause tears, my love,” I replied.
“No,” she interjected, “it was the first time I’ve ever felt heard.”
On the car ride home, I cried also. She and I walked out of that place we had once dwelled in doom and darkness with victory over life smeared across face like ocher paint. Often, after a performance, an audience member will approach declaring that they have felt heard and/or healed by the telling of these stories. For this reason, poetry will forever be my ministry.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham Jail has profoundly influenced my management philosophy. Here was a leader orchestrating a transformative movement from the confines of imprisonment. Inspired by his resilience, I am committed to using my freedom to write. For me, writing is not just an act of activism but a powerful tool for effective communication. It’s a way to shape and drive the change I wish to see in the world.
