Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emory Shrock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emory, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
Randy Rhoads is my hero and inspiration. The technicality he plays with and the mixing of styles is something I have always been in awe of. He was also a teacher. He taught students how to play everything he did was on display. He wanted people to learn to play like him.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Emory Shrock and I am the Lead Guitarist for Outrun Infinity, The Headtrips and Singled Out. I started playing Guitar when I was 12 and started playing in bands a few years later. I got my start really in college at Penn State Main Campus. The music scene is incredible there. I think what sets me a part was cutting my teeth in that scene. Everyone who played music there was incredible so if I wanted to work I had to be good. I am proud that I have the ability to be in 3 working bands that have gained some notoriety locally.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The best part so far has been people singing along to songs I wrote. All the music I write comes from emotional places both positive and negative. To hear people positively responding to that is incredible.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
No matter what success you have you will always feel a need to keep creating. I spend a lot of time working on my craft and no matter how much time I always feel like I can do more. I think this goes for everyone who loves making things. I also think its hard for non-creative people to understand why we put so much time into what we make.
