We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emonie Piaget a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emonie, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always been attracted to clothes and accessories and the joy of merging those aspects together and seeing the finished product. The way we as individuals light up with feeling beautiful and the fact that the perfect outfit can change someone’s entire perspective even if just for a moment. When I first went to Paris in 2015 I fell in love with the ease or so it seemed of how everyone and everything was so glamorous yet it looked so effortless. I knew in that moment that I could bring that to people.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Emonie Piaget and I grew up in New York, the home of street style and funny enough I went to college for marketing so it actually has been able to help me in the way I push the way I style. I mean in all sense you’re technically selling yourself, your look, how you also see their look being. I’ve always had a keen eye for putting this with that piece and high end with mid range pieces and people always told me I should really get into it. It was actually my ex husband that pushed me to get more involved in the fashion industry. My friends would come over and I would dress them before we went out to dinner and so forth and I just was like let’s do this! The things with styling is to make the client feel comfortable. It’s very difficult sometimes to have an image of something and the client not feeling comfortable so having a middle ground is definitely important. I once got into a heated debate with a client over her eyebrows being bleach blonde and how that would react negatively with the clothes. It’s all about balance so you have to be patient. When it comes to my aesthetic and how I have been able to be so proud of the looks I’ve put together is because I believe in every piece I pull. If you are a firm believer how can you fail?
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is constantly learning and evolving. The knowledge of knowing nothing is constant and that there is an unknown beauty around every corner so it’s so wonderful to learn from others and see how we as creatives and artists progress daily.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society as a whole should definitely be a bit more accepting and accessible for those with different ideas. I think as humans we all think differently and it’s such a wonderful thing but I also believe we as creatives and artists should definitely bust out in a big way. Let’s make a mark and get more people in the mix.
