We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emmy Marshall a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Emmy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have been painting and drawing since age 4. My father asked me what I wanted to be while leaving Toys R Us around age 7 and I replied that I wanted to be an artist. Now that I am older looking back, I see that the passion for the arts started very young and I knew that I wanted to be a part of it forever.
Emmy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a self- taught abstract painter from Atlanta, GA. At the age of seven his father asked him what he wanted to be while leaving Toys R Us and he quickly responded that he wanted to be an “artist”. I started my business Paintedbyemmy LLC during the pandemic after realizing I had done the work in community and was already operating as a business. I offer original art, commissions, consulting, project management, murals, paint classes and art events. I update spaces by taking clients ideas and bring them to life blended with my flair. What truly sets me apart is my ability to build relationships with people. I am most proud of chasing my dream daily while sharing my gift of creativity through several opportunities. I would like people to know that My work is a visual representation of the unique human experience of color. The need to express myself without words and knowing that creativity is a never-ending journey inspires me to produce more material.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to connect, inspire and build community while sharing my gift.
What does that look like?
Supporting other artist at their shows, giving advice, participating a company events like Accenture Pride Pop-Up, HD Supply Juneteenth art showcases, hands on workshops for children at the local library.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I love this question. I have built my audience by placing my art first and foremost. I made a decision a few years ago that if I wanted to take this seriously, I would need to dedicate my page to that so that my name would be synonymous with art. In my personal life I have immersed myself into the arts as well by socially attending events on a weekly or monthly basis to keep myself inspired and surrounded by other artist.
