Emma , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you manage your own social media?
Social media is a large part of my business. As apps like Instagram and TikTok increase in popularity, it is important for me to utilize these tools to help grow my business. I started off by posting my artwork and designs to Instagram. I had to learn how to use hashtags, reels and other tools in order to grow my audience and reach. Truthfully, social media can be tricky to navigate and definitely takes time but in the end is well worth spending the time to learn. Planning out posts, reels and other social media campaigns has helped me to manage the stress that social media can cause.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! My name is Emma Taylor, and I am the owner of Studio Em. I started Studio Em in the fall of 2020 as a way for me to share my artwork with the world. I started Studio Em during my senior year of high school after taking three years of graphic design classes and finding a passion in creating artwork. I was inspired by Kansas City and other destinations that I had traveled to and started creating prints based on places I had traveled to. I also started selling my designs as stickers. Over the past two years I have expanded to selling my products in twenty stores over Kansas City as well as online. I absolutely love being able to share my passion with the world. I am currently in college studying graphic design in Kansas City. Running a business from a dorm room can be a little challenging at times, but I would not change a thing!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started my Instagram I was terrified of the app truthfully. Instagram can be an intimidating platform. Seeing others with wonderful artwork and perfect feed made me wonder how I would be able to keep up. When I started, I started by simply posting my artwork. There really was no rhyme or reason, I just wanted to get my artwork out there. As I grew, I started tracking my posts and planning them out ahead of time. This has really helped me to keep my feed cohesive. I also keep to a color palette to make sure my feed is interesting to look at while also not becoming too busy. This has helped me to create a brand identity for Studio Em.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
My favorite way of keeping in touch with my clients and customers is to be approachable. I love to answer questions and actively respond to people on my social media platforms. Making sure that people get to know me personally goes a long way in my business. I love meeting my customers and connecting with them on a personal level. This helps me to foster brand loyalty and also to feel connected with my customers.
