Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emma Simpson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emma, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I reached a breaking point last Spring. I had so many negative, looping thoughts swimming around in my brain, “What if I make the wrong choice?” lead to, “If I make the wrong choice, I will be stuck forever.” Luckily, I had the support of my coach Katy Jayne. She helped me see that I would much rather focus on creating than on making the wrong choices. After that call, I committed myself, more than ever before, to my creative vision. I wanted to eat, drink, sleep, and wake to my creative life day in and day out. I am free to have it all. It can never be about compromising what I love.

Emma, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
One morning when I was 23, I woke up and looked around, unable to recognize myself, my home, or any of my life. It was all out of alignment. I was a stepmom to a beautiful 10-year-old and in partnership with a 40-year-old. I had given up on my life and my dreams and skipped to the end before I even got started. It all had to change. I had to put aside everything and change it.
With the support of my coach, I was able to focus on what I really wanted: to travel, make music, teach, and coach. The moment I said, “Yes” to my dreams, and “No” to the things that weren’t serving the dream, my life changed. I left the relationship I was in and started the coach training program with The Academy for Coaching Excellence. I received a tremendous amount of support from mentors, family, and friends. Support is truly a gift, and that’s one of the key teachings my clients walk away with.
Slowly, I started listening to what my heart wanted instead of what I thought other people wanted for me. Five years later, I’m sitting in my Brooklyn apartment writing this, looking around and experiencing my life exactly how I dreamed it could be. I coach creative folks who want to live more inspired, more in flow, and more tuned in to their lives and the world around them. Everybody has a vision or idea for something. I coach creative folks who want to get past their BS and focus on the work. If you could put aside everything, what would you love to have in your life?
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
All I’m doing is opening myself to the universe to be a vessel for creation. I used to think that was such crap when I was younger. But the more I expand into the unknown, the more I see myself moving and creating with nature as an unfolding of the universe.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
To tell you the truth, I build my audience on social media through one on one interactions. I recently read that you only need 1,000 true fans to make a living wage. I only have over 1,000 followers on Instagram- but I know all of them. They aren’t random people, we all have a connection. I would much rather have authentic relationships with people than manipulated or bought engagements. At the end of the day, my work is personal, these are real people and real people have hopes, fears, doubts, and dreams. That’s what I want to concern myself with- the real people behind the screens.
