We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emma Schermer Tamir a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emma, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
Corporate America assumes they can rely on their brand recognition and play by the old rules of the game. But in the highly competitive world of Amazon, this only hands eager new brands easy access to snatch market share.
Amazon has its own set of rules, and businesses that want to succeed must understand how to work with them. It requires a strong understanding of the platform and a firm commitment to strategic positioning. Once these principles are applied effectively, brand recognition becomes a powerful lever that corporations can use to edge out the competition.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Integrity, education, and pursuit of excellence are the pillars we rely on to build our reputation.
Knowledge shouldn’t live behind gates. I love sharing the information that I have learned over the years. For this reason, I started speaking online and on stages. This has been an indispensable part of growing our reputation, both by helping to cultivate relationships and establishing ourselves as thought leaders in the industry.
Simultaneously, we’ve worked hard from day one to ensure that the people we engage with have a positive experience. From the quality of our work to the level of service, our goal is to exceed expectations wherever we can.
When you give without expecting anything in return, people take notice. When you commit to deliver an exceptional experience, it leaves a lasting impact. And when you use your integrity to guide those decisions, you ensure your actions align with your values.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
While we’re a service-based business, we treat it like an e-commerce store. Very early on, we decided to productize our service. And we committed all the way, hosting our website on Shopify and selling our packages just as you would a physical product.
We chose Shopify because of its ease-of-use, competitive payment processing rates, and integrations with other tools. It’s truly been a great tool for us.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
