We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emma & Rebecca a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emma & Rebecca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our mission is to make our clients’ most important days also their most enjoyable, stress free, and celebratory moments. We knew from the start that our customer service would set us apart from the rest of the industry. We focused on that and never looked back. What makes a wedding beautiful can be very subjective. One person’s sleek modern might seem sharp and cold to a couple that was dreaming of a ceremony in the meadow. But great customer service is something everyone can get onboard with. Emails answered quickly, hopping on the phone to iron out details, making sure your grandma has the best seat in the house….everyone wants to be taken care of on the most important day of their life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a mother-daughter event design duo who prides ourselves on our positive energy, trained eye for style, and accidental (but often hilarious) tendency to say the exact same thing at the exact same time. Our business is founded around the goal of bringing beautiful celebrations to life – weddings, birthday parties, bridal showers, we believe in making all of the big moments feel special. One thing that has continually set us up for success is our ability to learn quickly. We make a mistake once; we fix it and figure out how to bounce back and not make that same mistake again. Every new idea we have tried has either succeeded or been a learning experience. That philosophy has really made us fearless because we always trust that we can figure it out. As we approach each new client, we focus on their event being a unique reflection of them, all while bringing a “no-problem” attitude to the entire planning process.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The relationships we build with our clients. We are so honored and grateful to be a part of one of the biggest days of their lives. We really love our couples and understand that this is their wedding day. We have one chance to make it amazing! Our reviews speak for themselves, when client after client says things like “How do you give a 100/5 rating? Choosing the Meriwether Social team was hands down the best decision we made for our wedding” and “A mother/daughter team of superheroes, Emma & Rebecca killed it at every stage from conception to day-of coordination. They are professional, empathetic, flexible, observant, and experienced…”, we find that there is no need to sell ourselves. We are dedicated to working hard and providing an outstanding product, which is reflected in the positive responses we receive from clients, fellow vendors, and event guests across the board.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
We love working together. The respect we have for each other and the absolute trust we have in each other’s abilities, allows room for so much fun and creativity. That respect translates to how we treat our team. We never ask them to do something we wouldn’t do. One hundred chairs that need to be moved from the ceremony to the reception? We’re right there carrying stacks along with them. We value the MWS staff and believe in showing it in every way possible. Buying lunch for everyone, picking up Starbucks on the way, paying for parking: we want our people to know we are grateful for them and their work. We have a core belief that it is our responsibility as business owners to pay the absolute most we can afford, not just the least we can get away with. With all of these practices in place, we have been able to curate a team of serious can-doers; our clients see it and other vendors see it.
