We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emma Hamlet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emma, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned to create content by experimenting with different styles and formats and observing what resonated most with my audience. Over time, I realized that data was essential in shaping my strategy. By analyzing metrics like engagement rates, reach, and audience demographics, I could better understand what worked and what didn’t, allowing me to refine my approach and tailor content more effectively.
Looking back, I could have sped up my learning by diving deeper into data analysis earlier. Understanding key metrics and how to interpret them would have helped me optimize my content more quickly and avoid wasting time on strategies that weren’t effective.
The most essential skills I’ve learned are creativity, adaptability, and data literacy. The ability to assess performance and adjust based on data insights has been crucial in helping me grow my account and connect with my audience on a deeper level.
One of the main obstacles was the overwhelming amount of data available and knowing where to focus. However, as I gained experience, I learned to prioritize the most relevant insights and use them to drive my content decisions.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Emma, the creator behind @undeniablyemma, where I share content about fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. My journey into content creation started as a way to express my personal style and share experiences that were meaningful to me. I began by posting about fashion I loved, beauty products I trusted, and lifestyle tips that worked for me. As my audience grew, I realized I could connect with people on a deeper level and even influence their purchasing decisions, which inspired me to turn my passion into a business.
I focus on creating authentic, relatable content that showcases products and services I genuinely believe in. Whether I’m sharing a beauty routine, fashion finds, or lifestyle tips, I aim to help my followers discover things that improve their lives and enhance their personal style. I take pride in creating a community where people can come for inspiration and feel confident in the recommendations I make.
What sets me apart from others in my field is my focus on data-driven content creation. I pay close attention to analytics, audience insights, and trends to optimize my content. This approach allows me to provide highly relevant content for my audience and ensure I’m consistently delivering value. I’m also deeply committed to being authentic—what you see on my feed is real, and I’m transparent about my experiences with products and services.
What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built. It’s not just about numbers, but the meaningful connections I’ve made with my followers. I’m also proud of the brands I’ve worked with and the creative partnerships I’ve established. These collaborations have allowed me to share quality products I believe in, while also learning from the amazing brands I work with.
I want potential followers and brands to know that I’m committed to providing thoughtful, honest, and engaging content. My focus is on delivering value, whether that’s through sharing the latest trends, practical beauty tips, or showcasing how products can fit into everyday life. I’m passionate about building relationships and supporting brands that align with my values, and I’m always eager to collaborate in meaningful ways.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media has been a journey of learning, adapting, and staying true to myself. When I first started sharing content on Instagram, I wasn’t focused on growth at all—I was just sharing things I loved: fashion pieces I felt good in, beauty products I trusted, and lifestyle tips that worked for me. But over time, I noticed that certain types of posts sparked more engagement, and my community started growing.
One pivotal moment was when I began paying closer attention to the data—looking at which posts performed well, what time of day my followers were most active, and how they were engaging with my content. By adjusting my content strategy around these insights, I could refine my approach. I also started to focus more on consistency—posting regularly and interacting with my followers, responding to comments, and showing up in Stories. This helped build a stronger connection with my audience.
One turning point was when I started collaborating with brands that aligned with my values and aesthetic. These partnerships helped me reach a broader audience, as I was able to share products I genuinely loved and believed in. Working with brands also pushed me to create higher-quality content and pay closer attention to my audience’s feedback and preferences. As I became more intentional with my posts, I found that my audience was not only growing, but also becoming more engaged.
For those just starting to build their social media presence, my advice is to focus on consistency and authenticity. Don’t worry about being perfect—just start posting content you care about. Over time, you’ll get a sense of what works and what doesn’t. Engagement is key; make an effort to respond to your audience and interact with others in your niche. It’s not just about getting followers but about creating a community.
Also, don’t be afraid to experiment with different content types—whether that’s Reels, Stories, or static posts. And remember, data is your friend. Pay attention to your analytics, adjust accordingly, and keep improving. Building an audience takes time, but if you stay consistent, authentic, and engage with your community, it’ll grow naturally.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is the ability to inspire and connect with others through my work. Whether it’s through sharing a fashion look, a beauty tip, or a personal story, knowing that my content resonates with people and makes them feel seen or motivated is incredibly fulfilling. I love when a follower shares how a product I recommended changed their routine or how an outfit I styled made them feel more confident. Those moments remind me why I do what I do.
I also find joy in the creative process itself—the opportunity to experiment with new ideas, push boundaries, and evolve my style. Every project is a chance to learn and grow, and the freedom to express myself through different mediums (like photography, storytelling, or video) keeps me engaged and excited.
Ultimately, it’s the impact I can have on my community and the constant growth and discovery that come with being a creative that makes this journey so rewarding.
