We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emma Ezzell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Emma, thanks for joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I have always loved doing research on ‘things to do’ and ‘places to eat’ when traveling to find hidden gems and local favorites. I loved to capture the food I would eat, the aesthetics, and the landscape of the places I traveled. Once I had been in Kansas City for a while and had explored all it had to offer, I really wanted to highlight what a great city it is. I received a lot of great feedback and questions when I would post about the cool food spots I’d visit or events, so I eventually created a page dedicated to all things Kansas City has to offer. There are so many great places in Kansas City and it’s only growing. I make sure to document a good mix of older and new spots via Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always loved documenting crazy food experiences or places I’ve been at. I created a page dedicated to showcasing all Kansas City has to offer through social media. I grew up in the area and think it’s a great place to live. Since I love traveling, KC is the best place to come back to. As Kansas City is growing, I love to highlight businesses via photo and video to get more attention on our local businesses. Aside from highlighting local businesses on my personal page, I also run several local Kansas City social media pages. I love getting to interact and meet business owners in the area and hear their stories of struggles and what they’ve overcome to become so successful. I work a corporate 9-5 so I love to spend the other hours of the day creating content. It’s the perfect mix and creative outlet. Although burnout can come at times, the people and businesses that I’ve discovered through it all have been amazing!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
na
Have you ever had to pivot?
After starting my page on different social media platforms, I primarily only showcased food and events via photo. Since switching to a mixture of photo and video it has opened a lot of doors and thrown my content out to larger audiences. I love to be able to create more reels and videos now that can showcase all a place has to offer that a photo can’t necessarily capture.
