We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emliss Niangne. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emliss below.
Emliss, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I immediately knew I wanted to be an entertainer at the tender age of 6 actually. There was a talent show at the after school program I was in and I thought everyone who went up sucked. My friend at the time told me to go up there and stop complaining so I did . I sang the hook to Britney Spears lucky (fun fact this is the first time I’ve ever sang ) . The look of absolute shock and silence in the room kinda worried me but hey I did it so I sat down as all shocked eyes followed. We reach the final the final round of the talent show where the two contestants left were a fifth grader named gio (I hope I spelled this right ) and myself. The school counselor Monique then Kiki Shepard the whole voting process. First , she put her hand above gio’s head and of course his friends were cheering for him along with a few sparse claps . Then , she put her hand over me and the entire and I mean the ENTIRE cafeteria rose to their feet ,stomped their feet , clapped their hands and screamed. I was then in a movie like scene , lifted up and declared the winner while everyone cheered my name . That’s the exact moment I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life .

Emliss, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Emliss. I sing I act I dance I write And can style, arrange and creative direct as well as executive produce and host . The reason I’m aware of all of these gifts is because of god and my manager/ vocal coach / mentor ekela and her company the voice box where I’ve been developing my artistry for five years now . I currently am a support vocalist for Iniko and have had the pleasure of doing since September 2022 and two tours so far. My goal with my personal artistry is to release all the art I have in me and share it with the world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love making people happy. To make someone laugh , smile , feel beautiful or seen . We go through so much shit as human beings on this floating rock in space and to be able to add to that bank is something I will gladly do to connect the world.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Honestly I wish I utilized TikTok earlier and better because people blow up over there like everyday.
