We recently connected with Emily Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Emily , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
I’m in social media marketing mainly and the biggest trend I’m seeing is the switch to personal content. Most consumers are tired of being sold something by big or small brands alike and are more interested in the person or people behind the brand. I think this shift is honestly a good one. All the social channels have been treated like a business for so long and they are, but also treating them as if humans are watching it is important. We all want to connect, even digitally, so it’s important to show who you are.
If I have content that I’m producing that has no personality or personal flare to it, it won’t do well. I have accounts that are just posting to post and I can do that but they won’t grow at the rate of the ones that send me content that they’ve produced, talked me through their customer stories, and are really engaged with their community. Those are the brands/accounts that are doing the best and will succeed long term.
Emily , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Emily and I’ve been in marketing for 6 years. My first gig in marketing was for a real estate brokerage where I was mainly focused on marketing the brokerage. I developed a social media coordination program while I was there that managed accounts for agents and ended up growing that program to over 100+ agents and 6+ coordinators. It was there that I really started seeing the gap in marketing that was available to individual real estate agents. Brokerages had marketing teams but the agents didn’t and they were lost a lot of times when it came to how to market themselves. This lead me to start Emerge Social which is a marketing agency for realtors. I help them with social, branding, direct mail, email marketing, and more. As a realtor you have to be it all, a salesperson, a marketer, a transaction coordinator, and so much more so I enjoy helping them take at least one thing off their plate.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth. Nothing has been better for me than my clients talking and referring me. It’s important that I build the best reputation with my clients so that when others as “hey who does your social” they want to give out my name! It’s the main way that I have been able to grow.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’m very transparent and I’ve noticed people really appreciate that. I don’t oversell you on something especially with social media. I can’t guarantee you followers or high engagement rates because it’s not a guarantee. You have to agree to come along side me and help me grow your accounts. If you don’t want to put any work in then you’re not going to get these massive followings and great content, it’s not how it works. Every project I do I try and be as realistic and transparent about how long it will take, cost, and what the potential results will be.
