We were lucky to catch up with Emily Webb recently and have shared our conversation below.
Emily, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
As a young child I showed a talent & love of all things creative. I would make up stories to tell friends… I would always be creating something….I adored art class… & was so curious about all things creative. All of this would continue into high-school. What was always missing were adults or teachers helping connect me to the idea of finding a job in a creative outlet. Being a kid from the 90s the idea of making it as an artist or creative was not a career path always encouraged. I adore the path I have been on been on but wish I would of started earlier. I work really hard to help mentor children & hopefully open the door to the idea of the thousands of creative jobs they might not always think about.

Emily, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I adore creating work that just adds a little glimmer to everyone’s day. The world can be heavy & sometimes just a little bit of color can really change a vibe of a space. I make every creation a one-of-a-kind just like you! I just want everyone to embrace the squiggle within them. What is a squiggle you might ask? Well here is a little story.
When I was on a leadership team years ago for a YP group, we did a retreat with a personality assessment test. Many of us have never taken this one before, and out of about 20 people, I was the only squiggle. If you notice in my art, there is always some type of a squiggle for this reason. I always want to encourage others if you are always growing , loving yourself, embracing who you are, & feeling good in your body……life seems to have more joy.
We all need the triangles…squares…circles… but we also need a good squiggle! We all have a little Squiggle inside of us, so let it out! I cannot wait to share some new work I told you is coming with some color symbolism with one of my favorite books, “The Secrect Lives Of Colors,” along with new Squiggle inspired treats to help remind you to be you.
What is a squiggle:
The Squiggle is a creative, original, and counterintuitive—an energetic idea generator. You like being around fun people. And, you like attention.
You love the “big picture,” you’re always considering possibilities. But, you sometimes speak before you think and don’t always do research first before shooting from the hip.
The Squiggle gets bored easily. You’re not always organized, and you don’t like being told what to do. However, you do adapt easily to change, and you like to try new things.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Whew this is a loaded question I think allllllll creatives think about. I feel like I said earlier starting with children and help guiding them in the direction of how to get from point a to point b on a creative career path while really cheerleading trying out creative ideas with no restrictions.
Letting creatives do what they do best always is magical. Watching a creatives star dim because of society telling them they are “too much” “can you do this cheaper?” “Can you be less messy?” “Will you copy this?” ….. just really makes me sad. Just trusting creatives & embracing they individual they are helps that star explode into an entirely new universe of limitless magic.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
This is not so much a story but more of encouraging others just to make the thing…do the thing…put the thing out in the world….& make the things yours! Once you get in a nice flow of this and just keep doing the things it is so cool to see how your resilience just shifts. This is what I ended up doing & stopped second guessing everything. Never get stuck in the social media algrimionm mess. It is all made up & when you start copying others & others plans… it just losses the creative glow that is you. Just keep learning & growing but staying true to the individual you are.
