We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Theisen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a Photographer, it is my mission to not only provide photos that will last a lifetime but to capture all the in between moments throughout your day that really tell your story. I capture anything from elopements, weddings, family, businesses and more. Not only is my goal to create beautiful imagery for you but to develop a strong relationship one on one that will help me tell your story in the most organic way possible. Between being behind the camera to editing your photos I offer a unique, creative, fun, moody and nostalgic twist that will stand out from the rest.
Emily, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to be an artist. I’ve always had a creative drive and passion and found myself dipping my toes in all forms of art to really find what path was meant for me. I started taking both design and photography classes in High School through a postsecondary educational system so I could see if that was the path I wanted to pursue going into College. To no surprise, I fell in love with the art world even more and bought my first DSLR Sony camera in 2010, I was stoked! I then went off to College and continued to fulfill my dreams and graduated with my Bachelors in Fine Arts in both Graphic Design and Photography in 2016. I’ve always had the urge to travel, so once I graduated from College, I built out a cargo van and traveled the country in it for almost 2 years. This is where I truly fell in love with documenting adventure, life itself, and taking photos of the beautiful landscapes around me. When I came back to my home state, I figured what better way to continue to fulfill my love for photography by being able to document important moments for people. Now, my business has been going strong for 5 years and I couldn’t be more proud. Was it an easy journey? No. Did I build it overnight? No. There has absolutely been up and down moments and it hasn’t been easy but it’s all been worth it. Not everyone gets to say they love their job but I’m definitely that lucky percent of people that feels so fortunate to have a job they love!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
–
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Staying true to myself throughout the process! Can’t capitalize this enough. It’s so easy for us photographers to sit there and scroll on social media, compare ourselves to others and get in our heads. It’s important to remind yourself that you are doing your best and that you’re pouring so much love into what you do!
I truly believe in going above and beyond and going the extra mile for my clients as it is extremely important that they have an amazing, meaningful, fun and relaxed experience.
As far as marketing assets goes – customer reviews, testimonials, community awards, and being present on social media, as well as word of mouth are all ways I’ve brought trust into my brand.
