Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Silva Hockstra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emily, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to help others harness their bravery to bring their gifts into the world. I believe we are all born with innate gifts and talents and it takes courage to share them.
It’s pretty easy to get comfortable in our jobs, collecting paychecks, and putting our dreams on the back burner. In 2014, I was working in the wine industry and had a dream job from the outside looking in. However, my soul wouldn’t let me forget my dream to become an author.
The longer I ignored my dreams, the more upset I became. While on vacation in Costa Rica, I was given the word “Brave” by an intuitive painting teacher. I didn’t feel brave, but she assured me that my bravery was there. When I came home, I worked on uncovering the brave parts of me which led to quitting my job to focus on writing.
It took 3 years and many rejections before I held my first book in my hands. I now have 4 books and a coaching company.
The dream came true because I harnessed my bravery. Since then, I have been helping clients uncover their dreams and bravery which has been amazing!
Emily, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the author of 4 books including Moonlight Gratitude and Sunrise Gratitude. I started my coaching company, Soul’s Adventures, in 2014 after quitting my job in the wine industry. My mission is to help others harness their bravery to bring their gifts into the world.
I’ve helped my clients navigate career changes, start their own careers, learn how to get books ready for publishing, and listen to their intuition. My coaching is a mix of spiritual guidance and practical tools!
During covid, I studied to become a yoga teacher and specialize in teaching Yin Yoga at a local studio in San Diego. My classes are slow and meditative and I often offer reiki during class.
I also created Moonlight Gratitude Circles in 2021 to help people embrace the cyclical nature of the seasons and the moon. They started as a small zoom event and have grown to in person, Since starting these circles, I’ve held over 25 circles and led over 250 people through my custom journals.
I believe in the power of mindful living, setting intentions, and letting go. When we can learn to embrace the seasons and lessons in life, we can live more intentionally and peacefully.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Blogging has been my way of fostering my connection to my audience and Substack is such a great platform for that. I’ve transitioned my blog from my website there. It’s also my way of sharing all my new writing. I love the platform because I can write in long form and my subscribers can read my writing without being distracted by scrolling. All my old posts are still visible on my website as well.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When I hear from a reader, my heart swells with gratitude. Knowing that my creation has spoken to someone means a lot. As a writer, I never know who is reading or how the words land with each reader. There have been many occasions when someone will write me to let me know that a passage from one of my books was read at the perfect time. When I wrote my daily meditation books, my intention was that the words would speak to my reader’s souls. I love hearing this stories and they are by far, the most rewarding to me!
