Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Sayre. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emily, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
With regard to the online book community, there’s no directions for how to navigate it or “set-in-stone” way forward. It’s a very creative space that allows for nuance and specificity when creating your content! Most of what I’ve learned has been in real-time. I used to create content that I thought other people would like and wanted to see, rather than making the content that I enjoy consuming and watching. And I think you can really see the enjoyment amplified in my content now versus when I first started posting online. I hope my passion comes across the screen!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a book influencer that focuses primarily on advocating for library support and uplifting marginalized voices. I found my niche within the book community as a library advocate when I started sharing tips and tricks for library card holders and realized that a lot of people actually want to hear what I have to say! From there, it expanded to advocacy with the current administration attacking libraries, local community book banning, and my desire to share information and feel like I am making a difference in the world.
I’ve always said that if one person learns just one thing from my content, then that’s enough reason to continue.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspects of contributing to the online book community is when people say how much information they’ve learned from me, or how much they value my content. I really enjoy that others enjoy and learn from my content.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I would consider my social media audience to be very small but intentional. As I mentioned earlier, I originally started posting content that was very main-stream and what I thought other wanted to see, and from there grew into the type of account I have now, which is more informational. I have a lot more drive and passion to create my current type of content and I think that makes a huge difference with how it’s received. You an absolutely tell when someone is being a cookie cutter influencer or when they are being true to themselves, and to me, those who seem genuine peak my interest and are trustworthy to me. Once I realized that, I found what felt true to me and shifted my content’s focus there.
