Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
When my husband and I first started sourcing vintage clothes, we honestly weren’t sure if anyone would like the things we found. When we finally took a leap of faith and hosted our first pop-up market, the support was incredible! Our customers loved our finds and encouraged us to continue hunting for more treasures to add to our shop.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We started buying and selling vintage clothing after a few of our friends showed us how to find and value items. We realized how desirable vintage clothing can be given its lasting quality and unique look. While many of the vintage resellers around us specialize in band tees and athletic wear, we try to find unique pieces that are outside of what’s most common. Think funky sweaters, western vibes, and all the acid-washed goodness!
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
We use several online platforms to sell our finds, but honestly, in-person markets bring in the most revenue. A lot of times people want to get into wearing vintage, but don’t know how to style a certain piece. Getting to help our customers build outfits that they love is rewarding and leads to more sales.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Our growing presence at markets has really helped to grow our business. We’re still figuring out how to boost our social media presence, but meeting great people in person has so far been our most successful source of new clients.
