We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Peters and Patrick Milford. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily & Patrick below.
Emily & Patrick, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
We started our business one year ago with a simple mission: to highlight Quincy, Illinois and all of the things that make it special. We tapped into our collective memories to create art that resonates with the community and honors Quincy’s rich history. All of our goods are designed in-house. When it comes to the physical production, we make it a point to collaborate with local makers to ensure our products are crafted by neighbors and friends. Supporting our business also supports many other small businesses. Community is at the heart of what we do.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We were inspired to create something entirely new and different for the region we love. Using our unique talents, we combined forces to create a lifestyle brand that inspires a sense of Midwest pride. Golden Collective is a representation of our styles and ideas paired with our love of Quincy, Illinois.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Since we don’t have a physical storefront, a big part of our business is pop-up events. The nature of these events allows us to connect with our community on a really personal level and build strong relationships. We think those interactions are a big part of why we’ve managed to generate buzz and thrive. Our custom designs are another component of our reputation. We’re constantly receiving great feedback from shoppers about how much they enjoy the uniqueness of our products.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
In a small town like Quincy, Illinois, word of mouth is one of the best ways to attract new customers. People are more likely to shop at a store they’ve been referred to by family, friends, and neighbors. Social media is another invaluable way to spread the word about what we do.
