We recently connected with Emily Olson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Emily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
When I started Luxe Organizing Solutions, my mission for the business was simple: sustainable systems for a beautiful life. In today’s day and age, it can be so easy to get bogged down by clutter and the purchasing of items that we don’t truly love or need. This is not to say that we have to live a minimalistic life (I love a good shopping moment, no lies here), rather we hope to inspire in our clients the ability to find a balance between the items they love and the peace that comes with a clutter free, organized space.
As Luxe has grown, our mission has expanded upon that premise with the base of three pillars. Luxe is a boutique home organization firm dedicated to bespoke systems, aesthetic design, and turn-key services. It is our goal as a team to create custom curated, maintainable systems that streamline our clients’ lives and bring luxurious simplicity to even the most used spaces, whether in a new home or one that is already well loved. We work in spaces that are all over the spectrum in their clutter and organization levels, partially focusing in clients’ current homes and partially unpacking clients into new homes.
Our home is the base camp for our day to day life. It can either make or break our day, dependent on the energy, people, and setting in which we live. I am a mom of two children under the age of six and when I say that our home has some majorly disorganized moments…well, I mean it. I know from experience (and there are plenty of studies out there on the subject) that a home that is cluttered and disorganized can weigh on your mind. It is so much harder to be productive and maintain positivity when our “base camp” is stressful. What I have worked to impart upon clients through our mission is that, while we are creating systems that provide sustainable and organized space, we are not expecting the home to stay perfectly tidy 24/7. I can say with absolute certainty that this is, at the very least, impossible in my house with young children…but I also like it that way. The messes and toys that come with this show that there is life happening in our home. Our home is full of joy and excitement and fun and what I strive to impart through Luxe is the ability for our clients to have a home that regularly experiences all of these things and then can easily be brought back to status quo with carefully chosen systems and editing of items that are not truly loved or used.
Emily, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Luxe Organizing Solutions is a boutique home organizing firm dedicated to bespoke systems, aesthetic design, and turn-key service. Our forte lies in creating custom curated and maintainable systems to streamline your day and bring peace to even the most used spaces, whether you have lived in your home for years or are starting from scratch. We offer home and office organization services, whole and partial home unpacking, and a New Beginnings service in which we source any and all products needed for a client to live in their new home – from the dish soap to the dishes.
I am a Georgia native, born in Decatur, with my family residing in various parts of the state to this day. I graduated from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and practiced as a Doctor of Physical Therapy prior to my segue into the organization world. I have always believed that our space, whether large or small, should reflect our personality, goals, and style. I have held a love for art and design my whole life, especially in recent years, and Luxe was born through my desire to find a career that provided the perfect combination of a creative outlet, service to others, the flexibility of making my own schedule.
Alongside myself, I have five employees, working in varying team size dependent on the space and needs of the particular client. One thing that we strive to emphasize within our team is the importance of creating solutions that support and empower each client’s unique lifestyle. Our goal is not only to create a beautifully organized space, but also one that is maintainable, transformative, and empowers each client to reach his or her goals. When we complete a project, it is our hope that our clients will not only feel the tranquility that comes with an organized, decluttered space, but also that their home will be a haven for both the current owners and generations to come.
While we love working in client’s current homes, transforming an already loved space into something even more so, our team is also passionate about working alongside clients during their home build. Working with Luxe in the earlier phases of a client’s home provides the opportunity to tailor each space for optimal use from day one. Our team comes with a heartfelt desire to take the burden out of moving in and a large part of doing this is through our ability to see a space, envision the ways for it to function best for a given family based on their goals, and to bring that vision to life. When our clients walk into their new homes they can immediately start living in and loving their space, without the overload of boxes.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Our team is still small, it includes myself and five employees, but we work very closely together on projects, whether two of us or up to all six of us at one time. In my experience, managing your team and maintaining morale begins before someone is hired. As a business owner, you have to determine what characteristics you require of your employees, what clients expect from your team, and how your specific mix of people comes together to make the magic happen. For our team, I try to maintain an open mind and reach for their ideas and opinions throughout projects as much as possible. They do lean back on me for final review and to get an understanding of my design thoughts going into each project, so I will say regardless of team size, having a chain of command in the sense of avoiding confusion is beneficial, but I feel like team members having a voice is a vital part of maintaining morale. Aside from that, I think making sure your team has FUN is a huge part of keeping morale up! If they aren’t loving what they do (not in every moment, let’s be honest, but overall) they are not going to function as a unit in a positive way and that morale you hope for will never exist. This also comes from those in charge showing them, both as a group and as individuals, that they are valued and appreciated on a regular basis.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that building a positive reputation, particularly for us here at Luxe, is founded in our unwavering commitment to excellence and the client experience. Perfection is a dynamic concept in our line of work, but we guarantee excellence with each and every space in which we work. We provide a luxury service that is not elsewhere offered in our area and, when provided the opportunity to show clients what can become of their space, we ensure that we achieve their goals, above and beyond. Alongside the excellence of the work we bring to each home, the client experience is, I believe, an integral part of building our reputation. From the moment we connect with a client inquiring about our services to our final correspondence, we are punctual, efficient, and constantly aware of their responses, concerns, and goals. In saying that we provide a luxury service, we in turn are sure to provide a luxury experience, coupling turnkey service with custom systems that show each client their value.
