Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Kiloh. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Emily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
This is such a fun question! And as someone who’s an expert in branding, I love answering this. Naming a business can absolutely be such a tricky thing. For me, I wanted something that really spoke to who I am, as I wanted to feel a deep connection to my brand. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been slightly obsessed with Brazil – no real idea where it came from, but I always loved how beautiful the scenery and people looked, the diversity, and the culture. In 2015 I took my first trip to Brazil with two of my best friends and absolutely fell in love with it. There’s a joy to Brazilians I feel very connected to. Fast forward two months after I returned home to Canada, and my very first match on Tinder was, you guessed it, a Brazilian! He turned out to be the one, and we’ve built a life together ever since. – including two beautiful boys and a 1.5 year stint living in Brazil. To honour my love for all things Brazil, as well as my passion for the colour pink, I chose the name Rosa for my business (which means pink in Portuguese).

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always been into marketing, starting with my very first foray into business at the tender age of 12. I got my first babysitting gig by creating a logo and flyer, and advertising at our local super art. During University, one of my jobs was for a hug experiential marketing firm. I got to work with pretty huge names, and it was super exciting for me to get paid to chat and give out free stuff (aka sampling!). Once I graduated, I continued working in marketing and gaining lots of different experience . From Digital Brand at lululemon, to working at a PR agency representing brands like De Beers, I truly got a taste for working across almost every aspect of marketing. The common themes, however, were anything related to digital and building relationships: social media, public relations, influencer marketing, and branding. After I became a mother for the first time in 2018, I decided it was time for me to finally forge out on my own, and Rosa Media Co. was born. Now I work with mainly lifestyle and wellness brands as a Fractional Marketing Director where I support them in growing their businesses through marketing strategies that convert.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals are still my gold. I think people are too quick to brush these off. I always make sure to give a meaningful gift to anyone who’s given me a referral to make sure they know just how grateful I am!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think becoming a mother has shown me my resilience time and time again. I truly have the confidence to handle whatever life throws at me, in part because of the many challenges that naturally go along with motherhood.
