We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Frisella. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
Customer appreciation is key and is the absolute life blood of your business. Without them, you don’t have a business so why would you not show appreciation for them? I wrote an entire book called “Relationships First- People, Passion & Profits” and it is based around building relationships with your customers, staff & vendors. Appreciation doesn’t have to mean these great big over-the-top gestures. A handwritten thank you card is so powerful because no one does it anymore. When a client purchases from you they know they will get what they ordered but it’s about the surprise and total appreciation of a handwritten card letting them know that you truly care for them and are grateful they chose to spend their hard earned money on your product. You are not in the business of your product- you are in the business of people and you need to take care of them.
Emily , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a mission-driven entrepreneur starting my first brick and mortar business at the age of 20. I am the Founder of The Paper & Plan Co., A thrice published author of Relationships First- People, Passion & Profits and cookbooks The Fresh Farmhouse Kitchen and The Saints Plate & The Sinners Dinner, Creator of Fit Home & Health, Co-host of Curious me Podcast, Founder of The Women in Business Workshop, COO of 44Seven Media & the Arete Syndicate, Business Coach & Speaker.
I grew up in an entrepreneur family. My dad owned trucking companies and brokerage firms my entire life and also raised cattle and row crop on our farm. I saw first-hand what hard work looked like and the rewards earned from your efforts. I knew in my early teenage years I wanted to be an entrepreneur and began working 2 jobs at the age of 14 to make it happen in my future.
I am mission driven to provide the best product, service and help I can to help others reach their goals in life in all areas.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Speaking for The Paper & Plan Co- I believe that is attributed to my pure passion of planning and organizing. For years prior to ever starting my company I would always share how to plan, goal set, schedule your days and more. I would host meet ups, free webinars to my social media and newsletter following so when I decided to launch my business it was a natural progression of myself and my brand. It didn’t come as a surprise to anyone and because I had provided them with help and given them value in the years previously, they were excited to help support my dream.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Core values are an absolute must for a business of any & every size. I hire and fire by them and it helps everyone to hold a high standard within the company and also employees can help other employees by referencing our core values and these are not just something we say. We have all 9 core values framed and hanging up on the wall in our office as a constant reminder.
