We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emily Elizabeth a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Emily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
As a former competitive figure skater and tennis player, I have a lot of personal lessons and experiences that I’ve taken in having success in those sports, to my career path today.
The number one lesson for me is to show up and be consistent, even when I “don’t feel like it.” Back in the day, that meant showing up to practice and train consistently – for me today, it is the same thing. In order to be successful at anything, one must put in the hours and plant the seeds over time. It will not happen overnight and in most cases, it won’t happen in the first few years. But I’ve learned that I’ll always reap the dividends one way or another if I put in the consistent effort every single day, in whatever I am in pursuit of.
Emily, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Emily Elizabeth and I am a creative entrepreneur – from building my social media agency Loshattan, curating content as a lifestyle creator, and discussing all things life fulfillment on the podcast, “What Fulfills You?”
The foundation of my path really started from my college days as a “wannabe travel blogger”. During my Freshman year of college, I picked up my first DSLR camera and had a desire to begin blogging and creating beautiful lifestyle content – I was tired of just consuming other people’s content on social media.
Over the years through trial and error, I began to hone down on my craft as a content creator and began tapping into collaborations with brands, where they would send me complimentary products in exchange for a post. As I learned the creative side and in combination with my background as a business mind, I recognized how to combine the two.
Many years later, about 1.5 years after I graduated from Chapman University, I created Loshattan Co., a boutique social media marketing agency focused on helping brands elevate their social media presence through visual storytelling. I would not have been able to start this endeavor without my years of trial and error as a “wannabe blogger” – coming in on the business side enabled me to understand the social media world from both lens.
Regarding my podcast, I tapped into this world around early 2019 after learning so much from podcasts myself and having a strong desire to do the same for others, particularly young women in their early 20s. I launched What Fulfills You? in March 2020 and have had the amazing opportunity to interview many incredible guests including: Sami Clarke, Jason Feifer, Brandon Brooks, Steven Izen, Kim Ross, and more.
In Fall 2021, I launched the bestselling What Fulfills You? Card Game, which is a conversation starter game focused on personal growth with 100 meaningful questions, also often used as mindful journal prompts. It is sold in select boutique stores throughout the US, as well as online on the website at www.whatfulfillsyou.com.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I am very fortunate to have great relationships with my current clients, who have also helped grow my business by referring my agency Loshattan Co. to other business owners and similar brands that need social media help.
If you’re truly great at what you do, word of mouth always occurs.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Two books I highly recommend to help improve one’s business mind and entrepreneurial endeavors:
1.Principles by Ray Dalio
2. 4-hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss
