We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emily Casas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emily, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
One of the things my parents did right was always pushing me to be the best and never give up once things got difficult. My dad was in the marines and sheriff’s department. What came with that was a lot of structure and expectations. Having a dad who served is not for the faint of heart! If you know you know. I felt like there was no room for error because I constantly wanted to make my family proud of the one job I had as a daughter. You become your biggest critic and develop the constant need for everything to be perfect. A lot of the sacrifices my dad made and the commitment my mom showed as a stay at home mom motivated me to always strive for the greater things in life, while always aiming to be the best at it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am currently a solo licensed esthetician and esthetics educator. I was introduced to this industry through my love for makeup, until I realized the world of esthetics was made for me as it can be so much more complex than people think. I currently offer facials, body waxing, deluxe eyebrow services and tooth gems. I believe what sets me apart from others is my personality and charisma I bring to this industry. I always tell people, “yes I’m an esthetician, but im a cool esthetician!” And what I mean by that is…. I never want people to come see me and feel like they’re coming for a basic appointment with some person they found on the internet. I want people to book their appointments and feel like they’re coming back home to visit a friend! I want their experience to feel as comfortable as possible. Whether it’s through the connections I make with them or the ambiance I set through my infamous purple studio. Aside from the quality services I’ve curated and perfected. The goal is to create an experience rather than “just an appointment.” When coming to see EUPHORICSKN, you’ll not only be receiving the best top quality work you can ever receive in LA…but you’ll also be leaving with a piece of my heart with you too.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Well, I received my esthetician license 1 week before the first shutdown due to the pandemic. I wasn’t able to apply to an esthetic establishments for MONTHS since everything was shut down. I took it upon myself to apply to Target as I had never worked a retail job and I needed to start working towards my goals. I saved and I saved and I saved. Not only did working at target help fund my business, but it also tested my limits. Working at Target wasn’t a terrible experience, i learned a lot about myself during my time here. It also taught me lots about customer service and a lot about basic human interactions and connections as a person who struggles with social anxiety, introverted-ness and self doubt. Once the rules and regulations of the pandemic slowly began lifting, I began taking appointments on my days off and starting saving even more money towards the business I wanted to create!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I wouldn’t necessarily share a specific story, but all the feedback my clients share about me and my business. When people ask them “why did you choose Emily as your esthetician?” or “why do you keep coming back to Emily after all these years?” the answer is always the same. They always say it’s the impeccable services they receive and not only that…but the quality experience and amicability they receive from me. I’ve come to find out throughout the years that it’s not only the quality services that keep people coming back, but it’s also me as a person that my people love to come see. That is the greatest thing anyone who’s a service provider can ever hear.
