We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Brulotte. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Since our first interview some things have changed…
Previously, I was running an in-person, whole food, plant-based meal prep business out of San Diego. I then transitioned to cooking privately for a few clients based on their personal health needs, goals and taste preferences. Over the last 6 years, I focused on getting certified in holistic nutrition to cater toward my niche market.
Fast forward to this past year–I transitioned to a completely virtual business model which helped me reach more people. I teach this lifestyle both locally and globally, not only for clients who are looking to lose weight but also to holistically maximize their health.
I recently just came out with my first oil-free, plant-based sauce E-book. My sauces are the holy grail and the most beloved aspect to my meals! The E-book includes 25 amazing dairy-free and anti-inflammatory secret sauces (available on my website www.plantversed.com). These sauces will make any meal delicious!
Emily, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Growing up, I was a competitive gymnast. As a competitive athlete, no matter the sport, there is a lot of pressure regarding body image. And then after being diagnosed with Chiari Malformation when I was 16, my time as a gymnast came to an end, and my struggle with disordered eating accelerated. Years later, during my time studying through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, I discovered the McDougall Program. The McDougall lifestyle promotes a whole food, plant-based, high carb, low fat, and oil-free diet. Adapting to this lifestyle enabled me to reclaim my relationship with food, health, and myself.
I specialize in a whole food, plant-based, anti-inflammatory diet for weight loss and overall health. The benefits of this lifestyle include preventing, alleviating and reversing the effects of chronic illness, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
I have three programs that I offer to my clients:
I work one-on-one (locally and virtually) with individuals in order to accommodate their unique needs and goals so they may sustainably experience the long lasting benefits this lifestyle provides. My one-on-one clients may choose from a 21-day program or a 3-month program. First, I send out guidelines and then I work with them everyday to discuss and create meal plans, grocery lists, recipes, as well as how to travel and eat at restaurants while staying compliant with the lifestyle.
I also offer a 10-day virtual group challenge seasonally. We focus on incorporating this program into each person’s lifestyle while maximizing weight loss and gaining health, and eating an abundance of plant and starch-based foods. A key take away from these challenges is that you do not have to eat less to achieve your goals; you need to focus on eating more of the right foods. The foods highlighted within this program are what our bodies are meant to eat in order to effortlessly run and burn fuel while maximizing energy and clearing inflammation.
My goal is to help all of my clients navigate real-life, in-the-moment, situations so they may be successful with this way of life. I am truly a hand holder to make sure my clients get results.
I deeply care about every individual that I get to work with, and I wholeheartedly believe in the philosophy and science of what I practice.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I received my certification in Health Coach Training from the Institution of Integrative Nutrition in October of 2018. There, I was introduced to the work and philosophy of Dr. John McDougall. The lifestyle he promotes is one that I had never heard of, yet one that made absolute and complete sense. The McDougall Program inspired me to lead a more healthy lifestyle and dedicate my career to helping others do the same. In May of 2021, I officially received my educational certificate from The McDougall Program in Whole Food, Plant-Based, Health and Nutrition.
Prior to beginning my journey in health and nutrition, I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2012.

Word of mouth and transitioning to a virtual business.
If it weren’t for cooking and getting my meals out all around San Diego to share how delicious, yet healthy, a plant-based diet can be, I would never be where I am today.
Cooking locally gave me the credibility I needed to become successful. I had the privilege to cook for, meet with, and share this knowledge with people all around town. I am sure that you have seen a lot of meal prep service ads out there, on your Facebook page, Instagram, and in your email inboxes, but I truly believe that my company is different because this is a nutritional lifestyle with a purpose, soul, and sustainability. I want you to be eating delicious and satisfying foods, all while maximizing your health.
Because of the local support and push I received in the last year or so, I was able to successfully transition to a virtual business. I would never be where I am today if It wasn’t for my local support and the people that first believed in me and what I have to offer.
