Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Our mission is to provide you with meticulously researched, conscious choices that start in nature. But the Lovesong Beauty story starts even before you open your first product. It began with my career in the natural foods industry where I’ve spent the last 15 years as a sales executive working for natural and organic food brands.

I’ve always had a personal passion for luxurious beauty products. Working in consumer packaged goods, I kept up with brands in the natural beauty space and learned what values were important to shoppers (and myself).

Most brands that I tried didn’t offer the kind of results that were better than the status quo. But there were other hurdles, too. Brands had high shipping costs, were packaged in plastic, and claimed to be natural, but had synthetic fragrance, alcohol, and preservatives in their formulas. Every product I didn’t like was a lesson in how Lovesong could do better and create cleaner products with natural and organic ingredients.

I spent time researching ingredients and sourcing recyclable packaging. We formulated and tested extensively. Each product is all-natural, cruelty-free, vegan, and created with wind energy. Lovesong Beauty never contains harmful GMOs, parabens, sulfates, silicones, petroleum, phthalates, dyes, synthetic fragrances, and synthetic preservatives.

As part of our commitment to the planet, Lovesong Beauty gives a percentage of every sale to a diverse network of causes within 1% For The Planet that support the preservation and restoration of our environment. We are female-owned, independent, Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free, made in California USA, and offer carbon shipping offsets on our website.

The best beauty products are the ones that work. The kind you reach for, again and again. You wouldn’t compromise on them — and we’d never compromise on what goes into them. Because that’s what matters to us: making great beauty, as nature intended.

Emily, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

After a years-long search to find the best natural and organic beauty products that actually worked (seriously, we tested hundreds), I realized that most of them were a compromise. It was surprisingly hard to find products that were accessible, provided results we love, and made us feel as beautiful as nature intended. But you know what they say: if you can’t find what you’re looking for then make it yourself. So that’s exactly what I did.

I created Lovesong Beauty with the goal to make the kind of innovative, luxurious, natural beauty products you covet — with the kind of results you deserve. Because we all deserve to feel beautiful, inside and out. Just as nature intended.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

Lovesong Beauty is completely self-funded, family-owned, and independent. We used our savings to start the business and have maintained full time jobs to pay our bills. I have a young daughter and I hope that my hard work will one day be a source of inspiration. I’m going to always encourage her that with hard work and perseverance, she can do anything

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

We heard success stories about building affiliate networks and this was central to our business strategy when building our social media presence. We signed up for ShareASale and started offering commissions to creators, influencers, and website owners. User-generated content (UGC) allows us to keep reasonable content budgets. We worked with a consultant to understand how to advertise on social media, and this investment led to Anthropologie discovering our posts and reaching out directly to inquire about stocking our products.
