Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emily Bowerman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emily , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The Blood Countess Aesthetics, I’ll admit, is a strange name for a business in the beauty industry.
I wanted my Aesthetics business to reflect both the gothic style & the dark beauty that lies beneath the beauty industry. These days you see too many white washed walls & pink frilly traditional salons for the common folks. I’m not here for that.
We exist for the dark, the mysterious, & the Macabre. We exist for the groups of people who feel they are rejected by society; for the dark, the strange, those who feel they do not fit simply because they love the macabre & show in their style with makeup, clothes, & music tastes. The gothic community is ever growing & I wanted to create a safe place for the community that I belong to to come & get a rejuvenating facial, a wax to maintain body hair, or learn about beauty without feeling judged. A safe space for the Strange & Unusual.
The Blood Countess Aesthetics is named after a real historical person as well! Our name comes from the 16th Century Hungarian Countess, Elizabeth Bathory, who was given the title “The Blood Countess” for her conspiracy of being a vampire who drank & bathed in the blood of beautiful young women to stay young & beautiful forever.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Im an Oregon Licensed esthetician & professional makeup artist. I wasn’t always though. I’ve only been in this industry professionally for 3 years. I used to be a real “vampire” taking blood samples for a hospital laboratory for about 8 years as a phlebotomist/ lab assistant before I decided to become an Esthetician.
I’ve always loved makeup, beauty & fashion even in my youth and I always wanted to do professional makeup for stage shows or runway. I unfortunately fell prey to practial thinking & decided to go into the medical field when I graduated High school. It wasn’t untill my mid 20’s that I decided I wanted to pursue my dreams.
The clients that typically book with me generally have sensitive skin, acne problems, or just getting into self-care and have no idea where to start. I provide FREE skin consultations to anyone who needs help understanding their skin & what can be done to help get them to the desired skin goals. I also see many people who are transitioning genders or many people who would like to learn how to do their own makeup & have no clue where to start on their makeup journey, so I offer one-on-one makeup classes to help them learn all the secrets of makeup from makeup products & brands to makeup application to complex & creative makeup looks!
Not only do I offer aesthetic services like Body waxing, Facials, & professional makeup services but I also formulate & handmake my own 100% natural, vegan and cruelty free products. The products I currently create & offer are Perfumes/ Colognes, Rose Toner, Beard oils, Body Mists/ Room Sprays, & Gift Boxes that are fully customizable.
2025 I will be working in formulations for Natural Deodorants, Lash growth Serums, Massage oils, Lipglosses, Sun Balms, & Lip Serums!

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I primarily sell my available products on my website at www.bloodcountessaesthetics.com as well as having a service booking platform on the website so local or traveling clients can book aesthetic services with me at my small brick & mortar location.
I also sell my products at local Oregon pop-up Maker’s Markets or events like Market for the Strange or Moth & Flame Market once or twice a month to help increase our visibility within our community.
I feel that the best way to market my products and services is WORD OF MOUTH. If you provide something amazing & can show them with facts or demonstrate that what you offer is worth it, your clients & customers will talk about you and your business.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Most of my new clients & customers discover my business because I sell my products at local pop up markets.
Sometimes when I do these markets, I do makeup demonstrations & they become intrigued. I have had many people stand & watch as I’m doing makeup application demonstrations on models or an actual client siting in my professional makeup artist chair while I’m also live streaming the the demonstration on socal media platforms.
We are still in our early stages as we are now in our 2nd year of business so we are still finding ways to gain new clients & finding new platforms to show our products & services.
