We were lucky to catch up with Emily Bejaran recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Emily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Adventure. Love. Passion.
Adventure, love, and passion have always been at the core of who I am. I seek out adventure, act out of love, and dedicate myself to nurturing my passions. These values have deeply shaped my life decisions, motivating me to make a meaningful impact and presence in others’ lives. By embracing these principles, I aim to inspire and uplift those around me, creating connections that will resonate long after I’m gone.
These values are directly connected to my work as a photographer. When I look through the lens of my camera, I don’t just see a family or a couple—I see a narrative unfolding, a story brimming with the raw, unfiltered emotions that define what it means to be human. Adventure, love, and passion are so tangible to me, literally IN my hands.
Capturing these moments, these fleeting instances of joy, connection, and intimacy, is not just a job; it is a profound privilege. Each photograph I take is a testament to the power of love and the thrill of adventure. It’s a window into the soul of the people I photograph, revealing their most authentic selves in the midst of their most cherished experiences.
The fulfillment I derive from this work is unparalleled. It is a deep fulfillment that comes from knowing that I am preserving memories that will be treasured for a lifetime. Through my photography, I am not just documenting moments—I am immortalizing the essence of the relationships that make life worth living.
My business is my greatest adventure, a deeply-felt love, and my biggest passion.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well- this is going to be a long one!
Hi! I’m Emily, though most people know me as Em or Emi. I’m 26 years young and feel incredibly blessed to share my life with an amazing husband (who also happens to be my assistant/right-hand man!), two adorable fur babies—Roscoe and Blue—and a couple of angel babies who are always watching over us.
By day, I’m immersed in the world of education, pursuing my second dream of becoming a science teacher. When I’m not shaping young minds, you’ll find me lost in the pages of a captivating book, snuggled up with my fur babies, editing photos or capturing the world through my lens.
As a devoted wife, proud dog mom, teacher in progress, avid reader, and passionate photographer, my life is a vibrant mosaic of connections and cherished moments.
Now, about my biggest love- PHOTOS!
Photography has always been more than just a passion for me—it’s been a lifelong calling. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a camera in my hand. From capturing family members smiling as we sang them happy birthday to photographing the sky at sunrise and sunset, and documenting my best friends living through their most memorable moments, I’ve always been drawn to the power of imagery. These experiences have shaped my understanding of how a single photograph can tell an entire story, capturing the essence of a moment that words often cannot.
My journey into professional photography was a natural progression from this deep-seated love for capturing life’s fleeting moments. Over the years, what began as a personal pursuit evolved into a career that brings me immense fulfillment. I specialize in photographing families and couples (as well as engagements and weddings), focusing on capturing their adventures and the unique dynamics of their relationships.
My approach to photo-creation combines a candid, romantic, and moody style with a thoughtfully chosen color palette post-editing. I utilize warm, earthy tones and cinematic hues to capture the essence of each moment with precision and depth. This color scheme enhances natural beauty, intimacy and adds a timeless quality to the images. I believe my end product truly encapsulates the raw, unfiltered emotions that define love and connection. I aim to create images that are not just beautiful, but also deeply evocative—photographs that stir something within you and transport you back to that moment in time.
What truly sets my work apart is the authenticity I bring to every shoot. I don’t simply pose my clients and take pictures; instead, I strive to create an environment where they feel comfortable and valued. This approach often leads to lasting friendships, as I become deeply connected with those I photograph. By fostering such a genuine connection, I am able to capture real, unscripted interactions, resulting in images that are personal, intimate, and timeless.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me to tell their stories. Being invited into someone’s life, even for a brief moment, to capture something as profound as their love or their connection with their family is an honor I don’t take lightly. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the images I create will be cherished for years and possibly generations to come.
If there’s one thing I want potential clients, followers and future friends to know about my work, it’s that it’s deeply personal for me. Every photo session is an opportunity to create something unique, something that reflects who you are at your core. My priority is YOU. So, my goal is to deliver more than just images—I want to provide an experience that leaves you feeling seen, understood, and celebrated.
Whether you’re looking to capture a special occasion or simply want to document the beauty of everyday life, I would be honored to work with you. Together, we can create something truly meaningful—images that not only tell your story but also stand the test of time…
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most impactful way I’ve grown my clientele has been by simply being my true, authentic self—genuine, relatable, and human.
Here’s my backstory:
I moved to Texas almost four years ago with my fiancé (now husband), landing in a town where I didn’t know another single soul. After spending my first year here solely working in healthcare, I felt a longing to pick up my camera again, to reconnect with a passion that had always been a part of me. But even with photography Newley being back in my life at that point, I still felt disconnected from the community around me.
Around that time, I had recently endured pregnancy loss, leaving me struggling with feelings of inadequacy and questioning my worth. The weight of these experiences plunged me into a depression, no matter how hard I fought to stay above water.
But then I found a local group of mothers. These incredible women embraced me, supported me, and loved me at a time when I couldn’t even love myself. They showed me the power of connection, helped me healthily face my mental battles with being an angel-momma and showed me what community truly was. God brought these moms into my life for a reason, and through their support, I was able to channel my pain into deepening my empathy and emotional connection in my work. This community filled a hole where my family back home couldn’t reach physically, giving me that extra support I so desperately needed.
As I opened up and connected with others, something beautiful happened—my business began to grow. It started with one mom booking a session, and soon, word spread. Over the past couple of years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing nearly a hundred families. My vulnerability allowed me to forge meaningful connections, and what began as a client base has now become a community that feels like an extended family.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
As an art enthusiast, a pivotal lesson I had to unlearn was the notion that my work had to continually conform to the standards established by other creatives in the photography community. Early on, I found myself comparing my work to that of peers and admired artists, believing that success meant achieving their level of perfection. This constant comparison left me feeling inadequate and stifled my creativity.
Over time, I realized that true fulfillment comes from embracing my unique style and vision. Thus, I developed my own photo and editing style, which helped me focus on portraying the people behind the camera more authentically. This shift made my work more rewarding and MORE FUN! By letting go of comparisons and celebrating my own artistic voice, I found deeper satisfaction and a truer sense of success in my work.
I had to learn that only you are you—unique and irreplaceable, and you’re not meant to be like anyone else.
Each of us has something extraordinary to offer, and our individuality is our greatest strength. To fellow creatives who may be reading this – celebrate your unique perspective and let it shine through in your work. By staying true to yourself, you’ll find deeper satisfaction and inspire others to do the same. Your unique qualities are not just valuable—they’re essential for building a career and a name that you’re proud to represent.
Thank you for taking a second to read about me and my passion! I hope to connect with you and/or have you in front of my camera in the future!
Love,
Em
