We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Antoine. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew when I was a little girl. I did not know what I wanted to do exactly, but I knew I loved the arts. I would draw all the time and was interested in music and fashion. When I was in High School, I attended a program at a career academy that allowed us to take career based classes. I chose Film Production and Fashion Marketing based off of what I experienced from the open house. Once I took the Film Course, I knew it was what I wanted to pursue. I had so much joy and loved being creative and completing those projects.
Emily, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After I graduated university with my B.A. in Film Production, I got into the visual media industry as a video editor working for an influencer where I edited reality show content. I then navigated my way into a film studio editing a feature-length documentary. I then got into social media content creation by working with different brands and businesses to help create promotional content and assets such as logos. I also ventured into the realm of working with musical artists to create lyric videos and album covers, as well as editing for YouTubers.
What sets me apart from others is my immense work ethic, well-roundedness of my skill set, and my ability to make people’s vision come to fruition. My work ethic is like none other, I can stay up for long periods of time in order to get the project completed. It’s important for tight deadlines. I also do not just specialize in just one thing. I am truly a jack of all trades. I also can help people come up with great concepts or help expand ideas into something tangible and attainable.
I am most proud of my ability to create something out of only an idea. It is so mesmerizing for me to think that I have this type of skill that can be transcended into a medium of that caliber. I am so grateful for my passion and love using it to impact others in a positive light.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to one day be able to say that I video edited a feature film that was actually shown in movie theaters. That would be my “I made it” moment. I think this is what would differentiate me from others and from the smaller local projects. Who knows, it can even be nominated for an Oscar. I would feel so accomplished and make my family and friends so proud.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the reaction of my clients. Seeing the joy on their faces and hearing the excitement from them validates my decision to follow my passion. It not only satisfies me, it satisfies the people I work with which makes it all the more worth while.
