We were lucky to catch up with Emily Alderete recently and have shared our conversation below.

Emily , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later

It’s been officially a year that I’ve been a licensed Esthetician in the state of North Carolina. I graduated from Dermacademy in 2021 and I’ve been enjoying every minute. Before I started school I was making homemade natural body scrubs for my friends and family, then it turned into my small business at that time. I couldn’t have done it without the local support system I have in Winston Salem and the surrounding area. If I could go back, I would have gone to esthetics school sooner!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Growing up I struggled with acne, Sometimes I was too embarrassed to step outside because of it. I didn’t know anything about facials or even what an esthetician was. I used several different drugstore brands of skincare all to end up with the same result, acne. I started my skincare journey in my early 20’s and have come along way. Along the way I realized that skincare is truly a journey and it’s not an overnight process. It does take time.

I want people to know that you should never be embarrassed to seek help. Reach out to your local esthetician, book a facial so you can get more insight into what skincare truly is. We are here to help because we have been in that same position and it’s our job to help you love the skin you’re in.

The year 2022 has been a year of growth.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

Networking. I can’t stress this enough. Join local Facebook support groups. Make engagement groups with other small business owners on social media. We are stronger together, supporting one another.
