Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emilly Lana Mayorga. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Emilly Lana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am happy as a business owner overall! Sometimes, I do think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. Meaning a 9 am – 5 pm job where I am in the office and the job starts and ends there. Only Monday – Friday. There are moments where I think there may be some peace that comes from this routine, from the stability, from the guarantee of a salary. I last had that thought when I again decided to be a freelance event planner. No salary, no retainer to depend on. It gets scary and causes some anxiety. It creates doubt in ones self and the abilities you have or don’t have. It really challenges you and your self worth. When this happens I just have to bring my self back to the present moment and remind myself, how far I have come since graduating college. I just got my real estate license so that I have one more income stream and I never thought this would have happened but it has, so I remind myself that I got myself. I can depend on myself. Failing is not an option. That opportunities will always come as long as I work hard and continue to stay thirsty for more in life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I decided on FIU in Miami for University. From here I met so many different people. I decided to go with Public Relations because of the glamorous life I saw on TV. I got my degree in Communications with a minor in hospitality and I have loved it ever since! I now have my LLC where I provide Event production services, event staffing and now real estate! I am a great person to work with, I have a lot of patience and I ensure that I get the job done in the best way. What sets me apart is that I will make sure I am helping you build your empire as I build mine. I want everyone to win. There is enough for everyone. I am most proud of the style of events I have gotten into! From large scale conferences, to high class galas, to penthouse events in the heart of Miami, to being featured in commercials and music videos with some of my favorite artists! I really need to take more time to reflect on what I have accomplished instead of being so hard on myself for what I still need and want to do in the future. While I continue dreaming big, I will be working hard, taking on new projects, clients and expanding my company and brand in this corporate world as Empire Pro and in the healing arts world as Zen.Amor. I haven’t mentioned how I am also a yoga teacher and reiki healer! I am so excited to start expanding and creating retreats around the world!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was working full time as an event manager for 3 years and a very traumatic experience happened to me, where I had to take a good look at my life and myself. This motivated me to change my life. I quit this job and decided to start my company. I had to pivot to create a healthier lifestyle for myself. I was not eating or drinking healthy and I had psoriasis issues, this is where I awakened and said something needs to change. This is where I pivoted and immersed myself into healing arts. I joined a Yoga teacher training and I continue to teach and share healing today! I plan to expand in this by teaching more private lessons and creating a yearly yoga retreat.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that work comes first. Work comes before health and happiness. I was overworking and this caused me to have psoriasis and always have a cold or flu. This is when I decided to get into the wellness industry and now I am stronger than when I was 21. I am now 28 and I am also learning to love the aging process :)
