We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emilie Rimmer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emilie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Hi, im Emilie Rimmer.
One of the most important yet most terrifying and uncomfortable things to do is taking risks. Whether if that’s in your personal life, your career or in any other scenario.
It takes so much from a person to jump into a new adventure without knowing what to expect. But that’s also the exciting part!
I moved to Los Angeles when I was 17, all by myself – to study acting. And I never looked back and regretted any decisions, even though its been a long and hard journey. But all the fun, the adventures, the things I’ve learned, growing and becoming an adult in Hollywood has been the most grand and magical adventure.
Emilie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, im Emilie Rimmer
I was born and raised in a small town right outside of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Growing up my biggest passion and my only dream was to become an actress.
I did a lot of commercials, short movies etc as a child, but knew I had to move to Hollywood if I wanted to become succesfull.
When I was 15 I moved to Indiana as an exchange student to learn English. After 11 months abroad, I auditioned and got accepted into my dream school. ” The American Academy of Dramatic Arts” in the heart of Hollywood.
I moved to Los Angeles to start school at the age of 17. It was terrifying yet SO exciting. I graduated in 2018.
At the school I met my soulmate, Vincent. We now live our dream life together, with our dog Jonah. We got married in January 2022, and have been together for more than 5 years. He supports me in everything I do, and I couldn’t ask for a better husband. We love to be creative together. taking pictures, create content for social media, filming, acting, working out and going on adventures together is something we do everyday, and that means the world to us.
When Corona came I had to go back to Denmark for a year. It was so hard to have to leave my life and Vincent. But while I was back in Denmark, I wanted to use my time wisely. I got a bunch of acting jobs, and also decided to go to school for makeup.
I went to Nicci Welsh Makeup Academy in Copenhagen. And graduated as a professional makeup artist and hairstylist. After graduating I got to be the makeup assistant for a pride shoot for MAC, The Danish Music Awards, and for the cover shoot of Luxury Magazine.
I got so many fun and unforgettable experiences, that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
When I moved back to Los Angeles after covid we got married and moved into our dream house. I now work as a freelance makeup artist / hairstylist, but acting is still my main passion and dream. I just love that I get to live a creative life and use my creativity in everything I do whether that’s in acting, makeup, photography etc.
Sadly there’s been quite a few bumps on the road. First covid hit, then I had to wait 11 months waiting for a new work visa, and then of course the strike in Hollywood… But I believe everything is gonna go back to normal sometimes ( hopefully soon ) so I can get back to do all the things im passionate about.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspects of being a creative artist is so see the smile on peoples faces. No matter if its the director that loved my take on the character, or my client loving and feeling beautiful and confident after a makeup session.
I love that I get to work with people and their visions. We all work on bringing that vison to life, and that is something so beautiful to me. And when I succeed and my clients are beyond happy and satisfied, that’s the best feeling ever.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Growing up I had 1 goal in life. And that was to become an actress. I was always told by friends, teachers etc that I needed a plan B, and that I needed to go to High School and have a
” realistic” goal.
I always ignored them and told everyone that I was gonna succeed. I never doubted that.
My family has ALWAYS been the most supportive people, and never once doubted me or my talent. They believed in me, no matter what, and they still do to this day. Im so beyond lucky and fortunate to have a family that’s helped me so much. I would never be living LA with such a happy and wholesome life at the age of 23, without their support.
My dad loved filming, editing and directing movies when he was young. So me and my brother grew up making movies with my dad. I started acting when I was 3 and it has always been my passion.
