Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Emi Kirschner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Emi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Yes! I love being a business owner. It’s the best course in personal development anyone could go through. There are so many challenges and sacrifices that you move through, but it’s worth all the challenges to experience growth both in yourself and what you create in the business.
It was probably two years ago the last time the “Getting a J-O-B would be soooo much easier” thought ran through my mind. I was feeling burned out, had fired a virtual assistant agency who had lied about the hours they were charging, sales were ok, but a little flat-ish and I was waking up every day thinking ” I hate this”.
While I did take a little time to consider all my options, what I realized was that being aligned in everything I do and how I show up as a leader is most important to me. With that as my up-leveled thought process I stopped doing anything that was mis-aligned (for me that was posting on social media) in the business which resulted in me having the most growth and increased profitability the last 2 years. More so that the last 5 years preceding that.

Emi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started this business as a health coach. I’ve always been passionate about healthy eating, supporting local food, organic and regenerative farming. I wanted to be able help people not only feel their best, but understand why they were making certain food choices when they were stressed out.
A couple of years in to health coaching, I was aware that my marketing wasn’t attracting the clients that I wanted to work with. After a deep dive to evaluate what my clients hired me for and what work we were actually doing, I realized I was business coaching my health coaching clients. All of them were small business owners entrepreneurs and when we were having conversations about why they would skip meals or binge eat or what led them to standing in front of the freezer at 10pm eating a pint of Ben and Jerry’s it was always the stress of their business. Their sales were on a roller coaster, up one month and down the next, or a key team member had left suddenly, etc
I was easily solving those problems, organically made the shift to business coaching by utilizing my eclectic business background from being in catering and convention planning to working in a marketing agency to being in finance to help my client’s business thrive.
What I love about what I do now. I offer 1:1 coaching with some consulting and two day intensives with service-based entrepreneurs. The 1:1 coaching is a long term contract where we delve into every aspect of the business and I guide my client through implementation of the strategic plan along helping them with the roadblocks that inevitably happen in any business. It’s a very high touch experience and my clients have a lot of access to me. The 2 day intensive is for the business owner who needs help with a specific aspect of their business and wants a road map to follow after we’re together.
What’s most gratifying isn’t the transformation of the business, or all the growth, it’s being part of the business owner personally transforming into incredible an leader who is thoughtful and intentional while taking care of themselves in a way that they weren’t before so.
When I’m working directly with the business owner I take a holistic approach. We look at what the gaps or open loops are in their business and how can we solve them in a strategic way that’s sustainable for them. Each of my clients has different goals that’s more than “let’s grow revenue”. Some of them want more time so that they can work on other projects or want to improve culture. I create strategic plans and then help the business owner implement while helping them develop as a leader.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My business is based on relationships. Networking, referrals and speaking are my best channels for growth because potential clients get a clear sense of who I am and how I can help them reach their goals.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Honesty, integrity and showing up for my clients 110%
