We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emely Darby . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emely below.
Emely, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Ive been asked this before and I get slightly taken back…
I love what I do and have been so passionate on my philanthropic efforts, focused on the members needs and expansion that I haven’t even truly realized the tremendous impact and lives it’s already helped. I have had people hug me saying I have changed their life and I don’t know how to respond. I am just me, sharing my talents and love with others.
When I started my business my main focus was creating an organization based on the lack of support that was solely focused on the mother. It became a pillar of hope to assist with postpartum depression, then it rolled into a business and now it’s headed into a much bigger direction.
Since I was young, I was an oddball. This oddball goal was and has always been to create a generational brand whether it’s a product or company. Having something that could be passed down for generations, something worthwhile, makes my purpose more clear. Knowing I helped break the stigma of motherhood being the voice for millennial women and carving a path for my own little girl. Life isn’t over when you become a mom, it’s the beginning and Self-care isn’t selfish its a necessity.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Emely Darby built a diverse village, due to the absence of one.
And with her driving force behind unique events experiences and fundraising it has lead her to focus on giving back to community in a large scale.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
While her career was booming in the PR industry, she became a mom. Little did she know her world would come screeching to a halt.
“No one prepares you for what is next.” “As a woman, much of society puts this unattainable pressure of doing it all.
But how do you do it all, when there’s a lack of support.” You lose sight of your passions, your career, your self identity. I wanted to be a mom but I also wanted to build an empire. I didn’t see how that would be even remotely possible.”
Tirelessly, Emely set to find her village, her support. With little success.
The groups were there but they didn’t resonate or feel like home.
“Being a mother is not easy. There’s a looming stigma on what a mother should look like, act like, be like, do. I didn’t fit in.”
So she set out to find likeminded women who felt the same.
In 2018, The Posh Mama Club LLC was born.
Today the organization serves over 150 diverse influential women, attorneys, physicians, business owners and active stay at home mothers who are making a difference the community.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
How much time do we have?
My entire life thus far is built on resilience. From the outside looking in many would assume otherwise. Those closest to me know and most are shocked on how I make it all happen. I ask myself this very question, quite often.
I believe most of the things I have accomplished is through the combination of not knowing what the odds were, not caring what others think, and choosing to be ignorant on how unrealistic the goal may be. When you ignore the noise and focus on the result, anything is possible.
I also am a master at compartmentalizing and moving forward. I had a friend gift me a book while in college called “Who moved my cheese.” By Spencer Johnson. It truly changed the way I live my life. Relationships, career, etc.
Not everyone will understand your mission, not everyone is meant to be a part of your journey.
Once you understand this, the easier it will be to navigate and reach your goals.
