We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emelly Velasco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emelly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
My field is about the creative industries I´m working on this already about more than a decade with intellectual property mining de development of text, brands, images, business models, instruction design, graphic design, conceptual events, research, and visual art.
In terms of intellectual property it’s also the importance of making the registration of the intellectual property under good terms and conditions with the collaborators or participants developers of it, regarding profit is about setting up all the tools to apply it and to work constantly in the exploitation and exploration of the field; because in the world of ideas, by themselves it worth nothing but, the execution of them, the protection of them, and implementation of them are what actually makes the difference between profit and nonprofit.
Unfortunately exists “pseudo experts”, scammers and prices with a fee where we can witness new tendencies, this new trends falling apart like the high impact of the Non Fungible Tokens, or about the virtual and digital world. How many people was scammed by this trend?
Till the biggest fears of an investigators, artists and the way to build an artist de carrier or as an author, or speaker or even as a designer is exactly how and where is important enough to make it through, if is this intellectual property is relevant enough to have customers, followers or investors.
As a founder, is important to ask around, even out of our circle of influence, in the first of all started to work with a team that actually respect and understand the mission of your work, that they actually want to be hold, ambassadors and co-created in a mutual understanding and mutual agreement, the second is that register yourself or with truthful agency, mentor or partner, this requires constancy, discipline, organization and great adaptability. Marketing requires research, network require communication, commissions require formality.
I highly recommend to approach experts and arrange every stage of the creative business in order to create a great enterprise.
