We recently connected with Emeka Obi and have shared our conversation below.

Emeka, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea

How I started my brand was working at fashion retail stores and always being introduced to new fashion trends. I would also do research on manufacturers to see which one was the best to produce my pieces. Designing and making the products are the easiest part of starting a clothing brand. The hardest part is finding the audience who will purchase and support your brand. I would always try different ways or review videos of successful brands on how they got their brand to be successful. One good example is Mike Amiri on how he started his brand and how he was able to get his brand from where it is now. I recently watched a video about his journey and I am taking some tips from him on how to get my brand to bigger heights.

OBI DOMIENO is a brand inspired by Texas and rock culture. OBI DOMIENO pushes to design clothing
from creating original materials to developing unique designs. We fuse styles from Texas and rock attire with innovations of modern creativity.

The Brand was founded in 2019 by Emeka Obi in Dallas, TX. A lover of rock music, Emeka Obi wanted to create a brand that had elements of rock and Texas attire. “I want people around the world to know that Texas is a fashionable place.” “Also I love rock music so much, you might see me one day on stage playing a song I wrote.” “Deep down I am a Rockstar but now I am a fashion designer.” Emeka Obi

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I just kept on working over time at my job to get the extra money to fund my business. I also delivered orders on side to get the cash as well. I remember one month I made $2400 from door dash just delivering orders. When I start something I’m all in and I will do anything to get the cash to fund it.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn how to execute my brand and find another way to bring awareness to my brand. I would listen or watch videos of already successful brands that have been around for at least 5 to 10 years.
