We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emalyn Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Emalyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?

I started my social media journey in 2015 with my first ever post on Instagram, and from there, I started building a following. As of today, I have 11.2k followers on Instagram alone. Once social media started to take off, I started getting more and more opportunities to make money through my page. This was when I decided that I was going to monetize my account to be able to make money from it. I graduated in 2020 with a degree in Communications and started working for several companies running their social media. After two years of doing this, I decided to return to school to pursue another degree in nursing. Since nursing school is expensive and time-consuming, I decided that now would be the best time to figure out how to make the most money from my social media. I started focusing on what I was posting, what hashtags to use, and the best time to post. Just over the last few months, I have gotten to work with a few companies and not only get to try their products but also get paid for posting about them.

Emalyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s in communications and a minor in marketing; after graduating, I went straight to work. After two years in this field, I decided that I wanted to go back to school to pursue another degree in nursing. This was when I decided it would be best to monetize my social media to help me make money in school. I used all the knowledge that I learned from both school and the field and was able to grow my social media exponentially. In just a year, I gained 10,000 followers!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

Getting messages from followers about how I inspired them to become influencers.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Posting something engaging to your audience every day and knowing your audience is key to growing your following. Not utilizing only one social media channel, the best way to grow is by utilizing all of them.
