We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elzeard Stallings. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elzeard below.
Elzeard, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Being Human is inherently risky, from driving our cars, to eating questionably foods, we are taking risks all the time. This being said, nothing big can be done without taking a risk, and everybody who has had success in any arena will tell you about taking leaps of faith into the unknown. Deciding to be a part of a professional touring band is very risky, investing thousands of dollars into albums that no one may ever hear is risky, being a musician is the business of risk taking. We choose to live, we choose to put ourselves out there, we choose to lay it all on the line for what we love, and we don’t know what may come of it. Take a risk, live your life, that is why we are here!!!!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The Copper Children are a professional touring band, with multiple original Studio albums. We are in the business of creating high quality heartfelt original content, centered around a spirit of unity, and soulfulness. We hope that our music will find you when you are up in the clouds, or down in the gutters. We strive to cultivate networks of creative visionary communities, provide ideal habitat for all things music to thrive, and inspire the youth. We love music, we love sharing music. Hire us!!!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Making a band is easy, keeping one together is a bit more tricky. One is constantly keeping an eye on the overall health of the project itself with the health of each individual. If these things fall too far out of balance the whole ship is liable to sink. The whole career of The Copper Children has been based on resilience, from holding space for each others breakdowns, freak outs, struggles, addictions, disagreements, to vowing to always put the music first. This band is no stranger to adversity. We have had to sacrifice time, and comfort to create something special together.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I would like to see a more holistic approach to the music industry that cultivates a spirit of unity, and a desire for everyone to succeed. More collaboration between artists and venues, more transparency with profits, and bottom lines, with a deeper understanding of how much resources bands and venues need in order to thrive. We broaden our focus, we will see the inter-connectednes of all things, an eternal web of cause and effect, strings tying souls to eternity…. when one piece suffers, so does the body.
