Elyse, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

As a little girl, beauty and fashion has always been important to me. I used to love to glamour up and pretend I was a model. As the years passed, my passion for beauty elevated and culminated. It manifested in the world of Esthetics. While being a student of Esthetics, I also acquired a teaching bug. I figured that others out there would benefit from my knowledge once I became licensed. Now that time is here. Ascension by Elyse Spa and Training Institute is a reality. Now, we’re looking to become a staple in the community and train the next successful class of talented Estheticians.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Word of mouth, definitely. Satisfied customers turn into repeat customers. Repeat customers turn into marketers for the brand. A good review or expression of great customer treatment speaks volumes. And some clients have even inquired about the training side just because of the great experience they received as a customer. We’re building a family as a well as a client base.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Everyone said that I could never open a Beauty school, let alone one with a full-service spa included. The negative comments and criticism fueled me to go harder to reach my goal. The more I navigated away from the negativity, little rays of positivity surfaced. I met more and more entrepreneurs who helped me on the journey. Their knowledge and stories of perseverance was very inspiring. Also, true friends would mention the fact that they couldn’t wait for the facility to be completed. The ones who were for me during the journey are being rewarded with my extreme gratification and customary services. The finished product was the ultimate vindication for me. The naysayers are still naysayers for someone else now. I’ve proved them wrong.
