We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elyanna Wyatt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Elyanna, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Starting this business was a huge risk for me. K-Pop is not very popular in the Ohio and I really didn’t think people would be interested in anything related to it. I have never started a business before and I didn’t think it was possible. Before I started CincyPop, I was a college student working a part-time minimum wage job struggling with depression and anxiety. I really wanted to do more with my life but I did not know where to start. When I was at my lowest I got the idea to create a space for people who like K-Pop, like me. I noticed there wasn’t a huge market for it in the Cincinnati. I was not sure if anyone would notice or care. But when I began my online promotion for my business I received an overwhelming amount of support. People here really wanted a space for K-Pop stans. So, I decide to do something about it. When I first started back in 2022, I really didn’t have much money but I had the support of friends, family and a wonderful online community. Their support help push me to make this business come true. It was a risk to start but it have been worth every penny and minute spent.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is E’Lyanna Wyatt and I started this business with my sister Imani Wyatt. As one of the first K-pop based businesses in Cincinnati we strive to create a unique, safe and fun environment for our clients. The purpose of CincyPop is to operate as an event planning business specializing in hosting Kpop events, promoting Kpop culture, and providing a platform for Kpop enthusiasts to come together. We are dedicated to organizing and managing engaging events that celebrate the world of Kpop, including concerts, fan meetings, dance workshops, and other related activities.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Well, my business partner is my older sister Imani Wyatt. She was the person that originally introduced me to K-pop when we both stayed in Atlanta. We got really deep into the K-pop community there but we eventually had to leave to peruse our higher education. After we got settled in our new home we really wanted to bring that community to Ohio.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Finding your community is very important online. When I first started our social media accounts I looked for people specifically in the area that had an interest in what our business had to offer. I noticed that our following began to grow the more I interacted and listened to our audience. It is important to connect to your community as a person rather than business.
