Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elvis Fisher . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elvis , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
You can say this all started when I was 14 years old. I fell in love with training. I loved going to the gym with my coach and my friends/ teammates. I loved the process. I told my coach back then, that one day I would own my own gym.
I played football all throughout high school. I was fortunate enough to play in college as well at the university of Missouri. I received my undergrad in nutrition and fitness and my masters degree in sports psychology. I trained very hard and learned a ton about programming and training for athletes from some of the best strength coaches in the game. Many of whom I still keep in contact with today.
After college I played 1 year of professional football. I retired after. At that point in my life I have undergone dozens of surgeries and injuries and my body had taken a beating. I realized it was time to hang up the cleats, but never be too far away from the game! I knew I wanted to be a coach. So that’s what I did. I worked at a chain group fitness model for multiple years. I learned a ton be able to wear many hats and work my way up from coach, to head coach, to multiple locations, to regional manager, etc. I learned how to manage coaches and handle client issues and stresses. I learned how to work a room as a coach, coach multiple people at once, create a vibe and atmosphere that people wanted to be apart of for training. I loved every minute of it.
Late 2019 I made a decision to leave that corporate fitness job and start my own company. Thus BetterU Performance was born. I remember drawing the rough draft of my logo and business plan on a napkin in my kitchen with my wife and step mom! Wild times.
2020 was officially my first year in being on my own. No sponsors. No giant facility. Nothing. I had a couple clients that I would train at the park and started renting space from this warehouse. Then, covid hit and shut every gym down. SO CRAZY. I had to transition. I transformed my garage into this epic garage gym space and coached clients for a few months there and online via zoom.
Here in Texas, things opened up fairly quick. I went back to renting space from another gym but I quickly outgrew that spot. So I had to, yet again, take another leap and go out and get my own training facility.
2021 I signed a lease for my own spot. 1000 sq/ft. I was nervous, I didn’t know all the pieces of the puzzle, but I knew this was what I needed to do.
2022 I knocked down the wall and expanded my training facility to 2200 sq/ft and we have been rolling! I hired 2 coaches and now we are having fun building a team and growing the BetterU brand! Its been an amazing, scary, fun, nerve racking, sweaty, time, but I’m learning as I grow and we are just getting started!

Elvis , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Have you ever had to pivot?
I have had to make changes, adjust, adapt and overcome at every stage of my life. Its just apart of who I am. Nothing is every easy but the journey is worth it! I didn’t come from money. I don’t have a trust fund. I had to work my ass off to earn my scholarship to play football. I trained very hard to be a starter. I had to study to get both my degrees. I suffered many, many setbacks via injuries in college and the NFL and I came back after each one. Never quit. I don’t have a business degree nor a bag of money to start a gym. What do know is that the best way to earn something is to start moving forward. I dont have to know all the answers. I have to trust my ability to connect with people, provide great service, and be the Man I want my wife and daughters to look up to as someone who never gave up and had high character.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started out just posting about whatever I knew! My social media is littered with training videos, coaching tips, mindset talks, showing off my clients and athletes, etc. I try to show myself training as well because I want to show that I live what I preach; I show my family as well. It helps people see me as a real person, not some “influencer” who is corny and can’t be trusted. My social media is me. I am the brand. I strive to become the absolute best version of myself daily.
