Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elly Cooke. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elly, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I attended my first live concert when I was fifteen. I saw the country music sensation, Hunter Hayes, at the Gettysburg College. Hunter’s energy, passion and pure talent mesmerized me. I stood in a field full of people but his stage presence somehow created the illusion that it was just me and the music. All of my worries faded away as I soaked in the pure joy and anticipation of each song. I walked away from that show inspired, with a deep desire to make others feel the same way that Hunter’s show had made me feel. That was when I knew I had to get serious about my music.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a country singer/songwriter and performer based in Pennsylvania. I’ve had a passion for music ever since I was little. I began writing my own songs at age 11 and learned guitar at age 14. Shortly after learning guitar I began to perform at local talent shows and open mic nights. I gained experience performing and started to make connections with local restaurants and venues. Before long I was performing every weekend at bars, wineries, restaurants, fairs, festivals, carnivals…etc.
My songs are a balance of catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics with a pop-country feel. I often pull inspiration from some of my favorite artists such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Kacey Musgraves (just to name a few). I believe my music is unique because I write all of my own songs mostly from real life experiences and feelings. I have a strong belief that everyone has a story to tell and my music tells mine.
I’ve gotten to experience some pretty cool moments in my career so far such as singing with Keith Urban and Hunter Hayes at their concerts, winning Best Female Country Artist at the Central Pennsylvania Music Awards and opening for country music stars: Maren Morris, Riley Green, Parker McCollum, Chris Lane, Matt Stell and Anne Wilson.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist would be the moment when one of my songs resonates with a listener. It’s encouraging to see someone connect with my music because I truly pour my heart and soul into it and I long for others feel that passion.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal that I have for my music is to give people a place to get honest with themselves and their feelings; to cry when their sad and to dance when their happy. I want my music to be a friend and comfort to people when they feel alone. When people listen to my music I don’t want them to hear my stories instead I want them to hear my song through the lens of their own personal experiences.
