We recently connected with Ellie Curry and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ellie, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
It was the beginning of my personal development journey. I had worked all throughout college looking to land a job in my major (fashion merchandising). After graduating I finally achieved what I had been working toward, I was hired as an assistant buyer for a well-known fashion company. I thought that landing this job was going to solve all my problems. That it would give me the confidence I was craving. Instead, I ended up spiraling. I wasn’t performing well at my job, I was struggling with loneliness, and eventually, I fell into a depression. I couldn’t understand that something I had worked for and wanted for so long ended up being something that felt so unaligned with who I was. So I took a risk, I remember waking up one day and realizing I didn’t even recognize myself anymore. I decided at that moment to google “how to have confidence.” It was the moment I choose my happiness over what I thought was going to make me happy. This took me on a personal development journey that helped me truly accept myself and learn how to have confidence. I then become certified as a life coach and now I get to help other women do the same!
Ellie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After starting my own personal development journey to confidence I decided it was going to become my mission in life. I became certified as a life coach in 2018 and launched my life coaching company in 2019. Own Your You is a life coaching company dedicated to helping women learn that she is enough. Through private coaching, online courses, digital products, and events we teach women how to gain confidence, accept her authentic self, redesign her self-image, and create her dream life. I am so honored anytime I get to help a woman learn that who she is authentically is enough and loveable. I believe it is important for women to learn what self love means and to grow their confidence in the process!
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
The ability to feel through my feelings. I know this might sound odd, but I believe this skill set helps in all areas of a person’s life but it is not taught to most people. When I learned how to process what I feel I was able to manage my stress better, pivot when needed in my business, and learn not to take things personally or react to resistance or set backs without processing what I was going through.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, I would. I believe that everything that I went through led me to my mission in life. I had to go through different careers I went through to have the confidence I needed to start my own business.
