We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elliana Capurro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Elliana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I have always had huge dreams of having some sort of store or thrift where every single item of clothing is 100% free, I mean who wouldn’t love that? In late 2022, I decided to work on making that dream a reality for those in need. I created a team and started working on making the first ever free and WELL ORGANIZED clothing drive for the students of my local college campus. We bought hangers, racks, tables, reusable shopping bags, and all sorts of supplies to ensure our “shoppers” felt taken care of. We collected plenty of donated clothing, went through everything one by one by hand and sorted it all out to make sure it was all clean and in good condition. We had men’s clothing, women’s clothing, trendy clothing, modest clothing, children’s clothing, and more! We also had a full range of sizes for our beautifully diverse campus. Once we set up shop, it took off immediately. Students were ecstatic and couldn’t believe their eyes. I helped hard working nursing students pick out clothing for their children as well as many others and it was truly heart warming. It was an absolutely beautiful day and I can’t wait to do it again. Many clothes end up in dumps where they normally don’t even decompose properly and are never again to be worn. With this, we can not only fix that, but also help every person around up by giving out the clothes completely free, which MANY people need in today’s economy! I hope that my ideas can inspire more people to take the same initiative!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Now while I don’t consider myself a business woman, I love to help promote businesses, especially beloved family owned ones! I enjoy coordinating teams and starting new life changing projects that specifically find ways to benefit as many people as possible. I love doing clothing and food giveaways often at my local college and seeing the smile on everyone’s faces. I hope that even though I am still young, one day I can find a way to make this into some sort of organization or business, but for now I’m starting small since there’s so much I have to learn.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
If you are trying to coordinate a team and an event or project, you are bound to face hiccups and obstacles. Many team members will feel stressed or even saddened by this. It’s extremely important to keep spirits up but reminding everybody that there are plenty more options to explore and that they are doing a wonderful job. You have to reassure people that even if we do fail at something, that doesn’t make it anybody’s fault, some things just aren’t bound to succeed and that’s alright. Compromise, find a solution, and strive towards the next best thing. Often, the next idea will be even better than the one that previously failed. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, so keep your chin up!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My personal goal is to make positive change in people’s lives and I have already achieved that, however the goal will never change. By creating a team to help others and carrying out good deeds, I get the best reward; the smile and joy of those who I’ve helped. I never ask for anything in return, I just would like people to see the beauty in life. If I can help people see that, then I’m on the right track. I enjoy being a leader, but not in a weird egotistical way, more like I want to lead everybody down the right path as well as learn from my fellow teammates along the way.
