We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elle Nagy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Elle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your field completely flip-flop or change course on something?
What a wonderful question.
The first time I experienced the essence of transformational coaching, I fell in love. Finally I had found a field celebrating the greatness in people. A field focused on the potential outcomes of desire brought to life through positive focus and inspired action. A field which allowed for the deepest of introspection to harvest wisdom from within, thereby reinforcing the relationship with our intuition, our inner knowing, our Higher Self.
In the past two decades, a profession turned into an unregulated industry, and rather than supporting the individual path of brilliance, it morphed into thousands of well-meaning people solving problems through what’s worked for them (mentoring) or not worked for them but they’ve heard works (teaching), and believing so much in it that they proclaim it as a global solution.
Where the profession spoke of possibility, the industry finds pain points and problems to solve.
This gave birth to the new as I started practicing an art from within. A form I call Self-Leadership. I experience and practice the Art of Self-leadership as the calibration to greatness through curious conversations exploring the realms of possibility beyond what has previously been thought.
It releases the ego-need to be proclaimed as an expert – as a global explosion of expertise has resulted in fewer and fewer people trusting themselves, suppressing their emotions, and negating their inquisitive nature.
Instead, it creates a platform of peers coming together in deep respect and appreciation of themselves and each other. Willing to question their beliefs and thought patterns in individual and mass consciousness, from which to explore the previously unexplored, and create the previously deemed uncreatable.
As always, change births change, which is why I believe in the constant evolution of all industries – for even the experience of the unwanted creates within us a desire for a newly formed desire.
Elle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For as long as I can remember, I believed in the greatness within people. It’s what first had me study psychology, as I was under the impression it was a field which guided us back to believe in ourselves. It didn’t take long for me to be disillusioned, and even through the completion of my honours, I never connected to the beliefs of the field.
An experience further enhanced when I was diagnosed with suicidal depression, prescribed anti-depressants and sent to therapy. I can say with all honesty, I hated every session and consistently felt worse after each. Until one day when I’d had enough. Sobbing in an overheating car, I pronounced to God / the Universe that I’d had enough and insisted on being shown another way.
This set me on an incredible path of discovery, starting with kick-boxing!
Now before I go on please understand, I’m not saying therapy doesn’t work for anyone. I’m saying that if therapy doesn’t work for you, it’s not because there’s anything wrong with you. There’s simply another way that’s better for you and I invite people to start trusting the messages from their emotions. If it’s not feeling good, it’s not good for you. Trust this.
I allowed my insatiable curiosity to lead me to study every angle of the human Being. From transformational coaching (mindset), to Pranic Healing and Pranic Psychotherapy (working with the energy body), to personal training (physical body), to yoga (mind/body/spirit philosophy) to the realms of consciousness and Universal Laws. I started applying, practicing, refining and sharing, all the while allowing my clients to engage in transformational conversations for growth and remembrance of who and what they are, taking back ownership of their creations, and finding their pathway to euphoria as all areas of their lives are uplifted simultaneously.
Today, I’m leading the way into a new field of Self. What I term the Art of Self-Leadership. In this I support conscious creatives to explore what else is possible through them when they allow their genius nature free rein. It’s a field where conversations start at the point where the status quo ends. A field which infuses all the bodies, all the Laws of Creation, all from a space of reclaiming the Self.
My work is formed in the consciousness of Divine Love. It’s a space where life becomes art, and the artist becomes free and unapologetic in their expression of greatness. Rather than asking my clients to operate in the face of fear, I support them to calibrate to their evolved self and operate from trust, certainty, enhanced creativity, joy and satisfaction. Rather than demanding self-sacrifice for success, I invite self-enhancement for joy.
What warms my heart is how more and more people are drawn to my work. People who were historically high achievers and have reached a stage in life of wanting more. Incredible men and women who value their power of influence and who take responsibility for their personal well-being and happiness, from where they inspire those who allow themselves to be inspired. In addition to working privately with clients, I host a wonderful group called The Unapologetic Woman’s Initiative in which business women come together to friendwork, to have thought-enhancing conversations of how we can create a new level of business in consciousness. I’m also the host of The Unapologetic Woman’s Podcast which continues to delight me in the rich conversations every week with women from all walks of life who freely share their wisdom and insights.
I believe it’s why my company, Direction You, received the Apac Insider Business Award for Most Innovative Global Mental Health & Leadership Company 2022.
It’s why my book, The Keys to Self-Leadership, was offered publication by three of the four publishing houses I submitted it to.
It’s why my self-published book The Little Book of Big Principles for Greatness keeps getting incredible feedback from my readers.
The thought-leaders of humanity are ready for a new field of sacred conversation where their genius is celebrated, curated and unleashed.
It’s how we live our legacies – unleashed, unlimited and unapologetic.
I’ve been immensely privileged to work with talented human beings for close on two decades in witnessing their blossoming of potential. I’ve been humbled by their relentless choice of happiness. I’ve been delighted to call each my friend, and years after our work has concluded, I still get calls to celebration and sharing of their joy.
And if you had to ask, I would say that I’m only getting started.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Without hesitation – application!
It’s why I term myself a Self-leadership Practitioner.
I practice what I share – every single day.
Not because I feel I have to practice to get a result or that the sky will fall on my head if I don’t. But because I embody my work and it brings me great joy and satisfaction.
And I practice the basics, always strengthening the foundational work.
I think back to my childhood. I started dancing at the age of six and would marvel at each plié knowing that my idol Margot Fonteyn, started each day at the barre doing the exact same movement.
It truly is the secret to greatness – remaining humble in your application of the basics of your craft and your art.
The other critical element is curiosity.
Never stop questioning. Everything. Including your own beliefs. Never stop exploring what else is possible and playfully trying out new things. Never get attached to anything as the be all and end all, for in that moment, you’ve stepped out of the greatest joy of being alive – LIFE EXPERIENCE.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Dear friend, nobody is in business for twenty years WITHOUT pivoting!
Especially when you’re playing in the field of personal development. For as I evolve, my business needs to evolve.
Sometimes the evolution is subtle and the business simply has to adjust course a degree or two such as when my family and I decided to move from South Africa to New Zealand, and I took my traditional in-person business online. At other times, it’s a quantum leap and the business gets ripped back down to its very foundation to be rebuilt.
One of those times was at the onset of the pandemic.
At the time my business brand was Alpha Females. I had received the LinkedIn Top Voices of the Year award. Had approximately 100 000 followers gained through a one year period. My work was passionate, my writing fierce.
And then, consciousness shifted and with global fear at an all-time high, I chose to take responsibility for my influence and shut it all down.
People called me mad. They said I was crazy for losing all my followers. And for just a nano-second I got caught up in the story. But the fact that fear would have been at the core of my choice to keep going, was the factor that had me decide in favour of my initial choice.
Best choice ever.
It gave me the opportunity to connect with a deeper essence of who I am, the gift of my genius, and the work I get to do now.
Life happens for us. When we learn to trust this, it becomes a delicious unfurling of delightful twists and turns, pivots and rendezvous.
