We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elle Kennedy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Elle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

My mom was a single mother who made it perfectly clear that anything was possible once you have the correct mindset.

Growing up, I’ve watched my mom do everything herself. She seemed to make everything work out and she took care of us very well. As children sometimes, we think that everything simply comes to us when we need or want something . As I grew older, I saw more and more of what my mom sacrificed for us to grow up with everything we needed. She showed us a perfect example of how to achieve any goal without settling for less. I didn’t realize this until I became a mother myself. When you think you’re at your weakest, that weakness bring you to your strongest self. It’s really how you set your mind to either think positive or negative. It’s a choice.

Before opening my business I then had three children. One being just a baby. I wanted to spend more time with them. I always imagined myself spending a lot of time with my children, teaching them everything. I didn’t want to work 8 hours a day and miss every precious moment of them growing up. At that time, I thought, anything was possible! So I did my research, I joined some Facebook groups, and started practicing with a camera that was gifted to me. There were some down falls but I wasn’t ready to give up. I was determined. My mom taught me to believe and work hard. Remember, mindset! When you wake up, you have a choice to say ” today I’m going to have an amazing day” or ” Today I’m so upset it’s just not going to be a good day” we have choices and that Choice becomes our paths. No matter what your next goal may be, just say to yourself that anything is possible! And, I can do it!

Elle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I run a luxury brand wedding and portrait photography business that I built on my own. I wanted to prove to myself that I could finish and complete a goal that I’ve set for myself, that would allow me to also spend more time with my children. I’m passionate about my clients and I want them to have the best experience that I can give. Once my client signs with me, I’m ready to work and help you with planning, guidance with clothing, even if you are super nervous at 4 am and you need someone to talk to I’m here also ( this has happened before) I Photograph weddings, events, families, and couples. I Photograph home and hospital births by request.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I participated in a lot of trade for print in the beginning to build my audience and portfolio.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Most of my clients are referred from past clients.
