We were lucky to catch up with Ella Colimore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ella , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents have always said to do what makes me happy. They emphasize how important it is to them to see me happy and doing something that makes me happy. My Dad noticed I was getting more involved in cooking and encouraged me to make an instagram highlighting the food I make. I did so and started posting on it. I was worried people would judge me, but my families encouragement made me excited to post and confident in my ability. Now I post what inspires me and makes me happy for me. Creating recipes, outfits, a makeup look etc makes me happy by using my creativity and sharing it makes me feel proud of what I can do. I am blessed to have supportive parents who will always be there for me in anything I do.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Ella Colimore. I am a 2nd year student at the University of Denver where I play lacrosse. I post recipes and other creative things like fashion and my daily life on my instagram @mindfulnourishingec. It makes me happy that my posts are reaching people and making them inspired or happy. Whenever someone comments on one of my posts or just in person tells me how they love my account it brings me so much joy and fulfillment. My dream is to grow my page even more beyond my local following of people in my hometown and college town.
Over the holidays I was very inspired and created a lot of content surrounding Christmas. I posted a lot of Christmas cookie recipes that my family and friends loved! I had my first real brand deal in 2022 which was a big accomplishment for me and made me very excited and happy to be working with a brand I truly loved and used before they reached out to me. I hope to continue this momentum into 2023!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of the missions of my page is to let people know they are not alone when it comes to struggles around food, exercise, and body image. I want people to feel encouraged to fuel their bodies and move in a way that feels good and empowering, not punishing. Having an eating disorder and being in recovery from it there are struggles everyday that are hard to push away. My goal is to share those struggles so people feeling the same way, so they are not alone in their thoughts and can find support out of them.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of creating recipes is seeing people remake them and enjoy them! I love opening my phone to people sending me there recipes or posting them on their own instagram. It makes me feel like what I am doing is actually good and worth the time I put into it. It is also fun to see something that makes me so happy make others happy too.
