We were lucky to catch up with Elizabeth Talbot recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for joining us today. We believe kindness is contagious and so we’d love for you to share with us and our audience about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
There isn’t one thing that stands out to me in terms of kindness because it is truly the small things so many clients and friends have done to support me and make me feel valued as a person and a business. Things like referrals, kind words, sharing their love for my work, reviews, all of the things that help my business grow that people go out of their way to do, make my heart so full. Wedding clients who become friends and put in the time and effort to get to know me as a human being and not just a vendor, make my job a dream. I appreciate and remember every piece of kindness and support that has helped me get to where I am.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Boston based photographer specializing in couples – I photograph elopements, engagements, proposals, and weddings. I describe my style as elegant, both documentary and editorial, emotional, and true to color. I love to capture moments as they are when possible, however I also love to play with light, details, and bring out my creative side. I strongly value forming a relationship with my clients on a more personal than professional level because being comfortable in front of the camera and having fun with it impacts how the photos turn out as well as their experience as a whole.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
As important as it is in my field to let your work and skill speak for itself, I have found incorporating my personality helps to attract clients not only in general but specifically those who are a good fit. People want to connect with me as a person not as a business and my personality is such a huge part of that, especially for wedding clients who spend their whole wedding day with me by their side.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is such an important tool in building any small business in todays world. While it is free and can be incredibly helpful to connect you with potential clients, it is also a lot of work and takes so much time to build up. In my experience the only “trick” to growing your social media, is showing up and putting yourself and your work out there. If you are consistent in engaging and posting content, following with come with it over time.
